The algorithm is a little funny like that. Remember everyone started with a small amount of subscribers - even at the beginning of the year I think I had less than 200! I hope it helps motivate you to take the leap - growth can be extremely slow but as long as you love what you do, the metrics take a bit of a backseat. "Afterward, I carefully work on my nemesis: eyelashes." So funny! 😂 I'm not very familiar with this character, but I still love the doll. I can see the imperfections in the airbrushed skin, but when I look at her what I see first of all is the look and style that I think came together really well. Especially that spiderweb! And is it weird to say that I think her eyes and hair work really well together? That cut across the forehead and the way it shades/obscures the outer corners of her eyes just lends her this mysterious look that I think goes really nicely with the expression and design of the eyes.

I see you've triumphed against chemistry this time around... I have to say, for me personally, I actually seeing the same old preparation steps every time. I know most people probably don't, and I support you prioritizing what you put in your videos according to what you want to show and what you expect people to want to see, but I would happily watch the hair coming out and face coming off and so on every single time, even though I've seen it all before. I'm surprised by how well that modified chest came out! I would've thought it would be really hard to reshape the doll's body to be flatter in that area and have it end up looking reasonable, but either it's easier than I expected or you're just really good at it! Absolutely love how his outfit came out. The makeup too! It's so striking! What a guy. I think my favourite detail is the cards in his pocket, but the tiny chains are also great, and that totally wild belt and hat... if I keep going I'm just going to list everything he's wearing, aren't I. 😂

It's fun to show the prep work but I also don't want the videos to run too long, so finding a nice balance is necessary. And yeah the chest was a pleasant surprise - I think if I went any further, there would have been some holes that I would have to patch, but it turned out pretty alright! Thanks as always! I was happy with the outfit details as well 😊

Ooh, that yarn blend turned out great! And I LOVE her face. The cute little pink nose... the expression...! And her little ears just peeking out of that cute hairstyle! The floofy tail is great too, and the colour of the dress really helps bring it all together.

Kneaded erasers are magic, it's great. I've never worked on doll faces but I've tried chalk pastels on paper and having a kneaded eraser was so important. I've never heard of an eraser pencil before but maybe I should look into them! Using black paint to give the eyeliner some contrast against the black sclera is clever! I love her facial expression and the details of her face. And those tattoos are great - it's really impressive how the tiny shapes manage to be so clear! I especially like how the blue facial piercings match the doll's eyes. Strikingly beautiful!

Differentiating objects by texture when you can't do it by color is important! Texture may not be the right word in this case, but using a different medium definitely separates the two areas despite them being the same color. And yes the eraser pencil is fantastic! I saw another artist use it and decided to get myself one, it was a great decision!

@@SweetBatsOOAKYeah, I'm not sure what the right word is either but I know what you mean! Different materials and media catch the light differently, and have subtly different colours, and there's some differences that are definitely a texture thing like how paint will have a brush stroke pattern and a slightly raised shape while pastels on doll faces mostly go down very flat to the face... it's a good trick to have for subtle details like this!

"Get a pair of scissors, and... remember my prior mistakes!" 😂 Mistakes are how we learn how to do better! This is such a good attitude to take to art. Watching these videos really makes me happy. I really like how her eyes came out, and the vibrant colour on those lips.

Ooh, you're right, the darker red on the lips is a huge improvement. I also really like how her eyeliner and lashes came out, and the subtle depth of those green eyes!

Oh man, I bet yanking out those big gross hair clumps *would* be really satisfying... my temptation to get into doll customization is increasing... "Thinking I could outsmart chemistry" is such a good way to describe that mistake. Yep, it's often tempting to think you can do it, and yep, it generally turns out you can't! 😂 I really love the energy of this video. You're making mistakes, but you're so cheerful about admitting to them and confident about fixing them, it really makes this hobby feel accessible and fun! Way less intimidating than a super-polished video that portrays doll customization as an act of mysterious ethereal magic. Mysterious ethereal magic is very pretty, but making and fixing mistakes is part of the process of art and I love to see it. The doll came out really cute. I love the colours on her face, especially the lips, and that cute-as-heck hair. I'm not familiar with the source material so I can't speak to how well she embodies the character, but I like her!

I appreciate that so much, thank you! I wanted to keep the mistakes in as much as possible; we live in a world where so much is portrayed as effortless and perfect but that isn't reality. Admittedly I do cut a lot of mistakes in my videos just for time at this point, but it's always good to show that everyone makes mistakes at every skill level. And I super encourage you to repaint a doll! Dollightful has a video about customizing on a budget, and there's so many secondhand dolls out there so it really doesn't have to be an expensive or intimidating hobby. Most of all it should be fun!
