What you're saying makes no sense. If people are broke, they are going to buy what they need from second hand. I'm killing it right now with pre-owned clothes for kids going back to school. Reselling is all about picking the right items.

I am can't find good stuff as much as before. So people are holding on to their good brands a little longer and the ones I do find at the thrift are make double or triple of what they use to be so I can't really make much on it after paying fees on it. I make about a fourth of what I use to make.
@ssherman3 күн бұрын
You're right...this economy is crap..thats a big part of it. Also...the fees and taxes are killing it for me. I don't feel after all the work we put in...paying fees and taxes its not really worth the effort anymore.

Even Amazon is feeling the pinch. They are going to start fighting Temu and Shein directly by offering products straight from China. Loopholes on imports allow China sellers to move product under $800 retail into American retail with no taxes. Amazon will now list these lower tier products directly on Amazon soon as people are willing to wait 7-11 days to save over 30% on same type items. Amazon wins as they will always get a cut. Only safe place for small guys is items that are hard to import for China either through weight or personalization.

Facts. Tons of sellers out here having to take crappy offers and throw stuff on a major markdown to make a sale and they think they are doing well LOL. Ain't a damn one of them gonna retire by 70 lol

Very true losing shoppers because of inflation coupled with summer slow down is tough I'm finally feeling it this month Even sending great offers and no bites today But I've been selling for 17 years so I'll just wait it out as usual 😅

Reselling is not dying sir. If that’s the case, everyone would be doing bad. I been in this business for 15 years and this is going to be my best year. I’m solo and will reach 100k easy again. You just have to be positive and consistent! What are you selling? If you don’t list, you make no money! It a lot more people trying to resell and have no idea what they are doing. They get frustrated and quit! I listen to these KZbin people and half of them have no idea what they are talking about.
@spotfinder113 күн бұрын
It's going to get worse. The platforms (Amazon, Walmart) are open warehouses in China and will sell direct to consumer like Temu. Resellers are going to get cut out as the number of items available explodes. This starts Q4 2024.
@crystalcole8883 күн бұрын
The number of garbage items available will explode. None of those items are quality. I refuse to order from temu. I think customers will eventually get tired of having to buy the same items over and over again because they break and are crappy.

Good items still sell. Period.

You’re completely right. People have really gone into survival mode these past years and when you’re selling something that is not a necessity, you for sure have seen a decrease in revenue from it. We gotta work twice as hard nowadays for the same results we were getting with half the work a few years ago. It’s not just reselling. The consumer market as a whole is like this due to 90% being on survival mode.

@@MoverandShaker I ship all over the US. I sell clothing and if you are not using ground for items un 4lb, I guess you are paying a lot more because ground is a lot cheaper....at least for me. Even cheaper than first class and way cheaper than priority.

Reselling the same "type" of item, yes, but as we know there are a gazillion things to resell like small appliance parts. More people are wanting to save money and just get another part rather than pay another $100 to $500 + for a new one. There are many other categories like construction tool parts, gardening stuff, etc.

@zeric30004 күн бұрын
You are wrong about reselling is dying, but you are right about niching down on a particular market. My sales dropped significantly last year when I was an everything seller because my sources were not consistent. Now I converted my store to 90% clothing and even during the summer, my sales are up 19%. For me, used clothing is the way to go. People are always going to need clothes. Just like anything else you still have to do your research and learn the trends, styles, pricing, etc.

Lots of people are definitely broke. The last few days I’ve had potential buyers apologize to me for their lowball offers stating that they’re pretty much broke. I don’t think everyone is broke tho- there are still lots of people with disposable income and I’m trying to find them cos sales have been rough this summer. I’m also starting to think people be using the economy as an excuse to lowball tho ( theory I have) anyway, I’ve had to do 25% markdowns to get anything to move. I’ll probably have to bump it up to 30% off if things continue this way. I have the most listings ever but selling less. But of course this is why I don’t keep all my eggs in one basket, fbmp has been pretty good lately. It’s more work to have to crosslist but ya gotta pivot and do what you gotta do.

This is the one thing that experienced resellers know. A poor economy means an uptick in reseller profits. People tend to buy used or discounted items in hard times. If you’re truly a reseller you should know this.

Heyyy! Your correct, no one wants to pay& more people are going to thrift stores themselves! Thrift stores “no what time it is” Nike, Under Armor used shirts $19-$24 and don’t let them be new with tags 🤦🏽♀️ Even a reseller tied to lowball me for a $19 item for $11 & free shipping 😮 watch your back dog eat dog 🐕😄 Good content 🎉🥳

Word, Been noticing a sudle decline in sales, and its hard to go through items after picking at the bins, I end up dumping out half my bag because I'm afraid it wont sell. sell throughs have been hard to read. Facts. shipping prices don't help. Still not a bad side hustle, but I've been enjoying not re supplying inventory, almost thought about giving up on it but it keeps bringing me back.

I'm going to disagree with you. Reselling has existed as long as civilization has. It's adjusting to current times is all. There was a boon during covid times and if a person started reselling at or before then they benefited greatly. Reselling/online sales were doing great, but the restaurant industry, for example, suffered dearly. Every town used to have a blacksmith. Not anymore. But it's not dead. It now just exists in niches. It's how business works. There are good times and not so good times based on a variety of factors. And some folks will adjust and succeed and others won't and will get out.
