Just got a NOS vintage compact (not Stratton) and if it wasn't for this video, I would never have figured out that I could put my Clinique loose powder in it. I was just going to use it as a mirror. Being NOS it had a puff and sifter (brand new!) inside of it. I put these aside not sure what to do with them. (Thunks head.) Thank you! You've set me on my way to collecting compacts.

Hi Jean what a beautiful helpful eloquent video! You are lovely. As a result I discovered my late mother-in-law’s compact that Ive saved lovingly and display on my hallway table as a decoration is actually a Stratton Loose powder compact with the Self opening inner lid. It is a lovely red color with flowers and still has the sifter But no powder puff. It even still has traces of powder in it left I don’t want to disturb it since it was personally used by my mother-in-law. I saved it because it was just so beautiful and sturdy. It has lovely stars on the back and says Stratton. Based on some research it looks like it’s from the 60s which makes sense because that was when she was a young lady probably most fashionable & using make up! Thank you so much for your detailed explanation have a lovely day

Oh my, thank you so much for this! I've started collecting vintage makeup, especially compacts, over the past year. I recently bought a Stratton convertible powder compact that came with a matching blush and lipstick with holder from Max Factor. The whole set is in pristine condition and were either never used, like the powder puff that is still in plastic packaging, or lightly used. I figured this would be the perfect compact to actually use as it still has the sifter in it. I also have another beautiful rose Stratton compact, but it is missing the sifter. Hopefully your shop is still open...

Jane, I also just got a newer Stratton and put a pan of Rimmel Stay Matte in it. Getting the Stay Matte out was hilarious. I'm not sure why more brands don't just do refills these days. I see some Asians brands do. We really ought to with everyone concerned with the environment! Anyway, thanks for your blog or I wouldn't have known what would fit.

So, I did get my Stratton and was able to date it from the 1950s. It is now full of MAC Set Powder and it works so beautifully with a portable kabuki brush. The sifter actually distributes powder so much more evenly to the brush than using loose powder straight out of a jar. I wish this sort of device would come back in fashion, actually!

Vanroe | Compact Mirrors I'll be keeping an eye out, because I'm very much hoping to acquire a vintage compact for actual use. Thank you very much for your video and website, because it has taken a lot of confusion out of my eBay searching!

Thank you so much for this video. Today I have just received on the post what it looks to me a completely unused stratton compact (one of the modern version for loose powder for what I see in your video) that I bought on ebay and I have already filled it with mineral makeup powder. And now I now exactly how to use it thanks to you. Thank you so much. X

Really informative video thanks a lot! I've been using max factor creme puff for at least 5 years and it has actually never occurred to me before to get a nice compact for it.
