I have a 97 geo prism which is comparable to a Toyota Camry that I was given without a key and that sat for years. I have done the screwdriver trick which had worked for awhile until every part in the ignition switch started breaking I ended up gutted it to were it's pretty much only screwdriver ( it turns and starts like a key) but now running into problem of the steering wheel locked up/locking up when i turn wheel so far. Any tricks to bypass the steering wheel from being locked/locking up . Idc if it's a permit solution/makes it less secure/easier to have stolen cause I'm sure i can crafty to come up with some kinda anti-theft idea .

I have a 2009 Chev Cobalt that when you turn on onle the "parking lights" the dash lights and none of the back or front parking lights are lit. When you turn the "Headlights" on all come on ,dash lights and all outside lights. I checked the fuse first and all ok so i ordered a "single multiple function switch" on the left side of the steering wheel. I got it from Amazon and two day later took about 10 mins to replace. So forabout $25 and no labor cost all works as it should. Hope this helps someone.

(Anyone) Any pointers for a 2004 Kia Rio Cinco whose dashboard/illumination and running lamps (front side orange ones and rear red tail lights) won't turn off??? So far I've checked the fuses, relays and have removed and cleaned the the combination switch. The one part I wasn't able to check on was the turn signal stem which also turns on and off the headlights (is it possible that it is the culprit - that it may be fused in an ON position, even when turning off the lights???) In any event, this vehicle is not a Canadian version, so I don't think it has the daytime running lights issue (but will check while waiting on a response). So basically, the dash and running lights are stuck in an always on position - and I can't figure out what component is to blame. Thanks in advance!
@markweber11512 жыл бұрын
Yes, the stem could certainly be the culprit. If the headlights are coming off and on with the switch buy the parking lights "first position" are staying illuminated. I'd check the switch. Unfortunately Kias don't get as much attention as they represent a much smaller portion of the market, so sometimes you have to do some investigation yourself. But with uncommanded power to the lights, the switch is a logical place to look

youre the only video out of hundreds that addressed this. both my dimmer lights and my tail lights are out, ever since i put an absent daytime running lights fuse back in the truck... sure i have highbeams again, but those others are out... been driving me crazy, cant see how fast im going at night, and now people cant see me. so makes sense that the DTRLs something is the problem. thought it might be a ground issue but theres been no work done that could have messed with the grounding. I'm gonna inspect this tomorrow when the suns back out, and update here... my guess is this is exactly my problem. thank you!

@markweber11514 жыл бұрын
Well, if it's a Canadian car, you should have daytime running lights working. If it's a Canadian car or any car that uses a daytime running light relay I would check there . If you live where daytime running lights are optional. And you have absolutely no headlights tail lights or interior lights on the dash that could be an issue with the headlight switch itself that commands all those lights to come on and off when you turn the switch on.
@chrstiano24974 жыл бұрын

@markweber11515 жыл бұрын
Yours is 2 generations newer, and I'm honestly not sure. It's worth taking a look at the seatbelt retractor and seeing if the wire with the sensor is there. By putting in the paper clip or jumping the connection the computer will now be live your seatbelt is fastened just so you are aware. I would caution you that newer models are more complex with pretensioners etc. Again not sure how or if this apppys to a 2009, but it's worth looking at it.

What a great fix and it took about 40-45 minutes as I wanted to make sure which connector. It was pretty obvious that it's the opaque housing and the connector toward the rear of the car. Cut a standard skinny paper clip and inserted it and the flashing seat belt light went out. Just make sure you put it in the correct side of the connector which is toward the front. Put electrical tape over it and put the covers back on. One note is that when removing the bottom panel that the plastic can break by the clip holders. I'm sure there is a tool to do this better, but mine is fine. A plastic putty blade would give you a view on where to pry off. Thank you.

To the best of your knowledge, would this also work on a 2016 Toyota Corolla? I own that vehicle and my seatbelt light keeps going off even when It's buckled in. I understand that it could be a few problems; but can I remove that panel and reconnect the pin the same way?
@SCooperEagle6 жыл бұрын
On such a new car I think that the seat belt buckle actually has wires going to it, and if it detects no seat belt it will deactivate the SRS air bag system. This is a dealer question though.

I turn the key into the start position but all I hear is a click, would this be the starter or the ignition switch most likely
@markweber11517 жыл бұрын
+Cyph18 You can rule out the ignition switch. The click you here is the starter solenoid. Which means it's getting the command to start from the switch properly. You csn try hitting the starter with a hammer or bounty object a few times with reasonable force. This will usually allow for several more starts. It csn also be that the solenoid contacts are worn. This can be serviced separately once the starter is removed. On an older model the starter is located underneath the car to the rear of the motor - rear being towards the back of the car - follow the clicks.

Thanks for this video. I was able to change my lock cylinder by just removing three screws in the lower panel. I popped in the new cylinder in the Autozone parking lot. :-) Part was under 40 bucks. How did you remove the plastic piece underneath the ignition key cylinder in the first place??
@markweber11517 жыл бұрын
+truelight1193 if you're speaking about the part I think you are which is the plastic cover that covers not just the ignition cylinder butt also the area between the console and the door. As I recall that's usually one piece with either 10 or 8 millimeter bolts or a Phillips screw head it should be rather apparent once you position yourself under the dash so as to take a look under the dash and look up towards the fasteners

My lights do not turn off with engine, thus battery flat all the time. Any advise?
@markweber11518 жыл бұрын
+Lourens Basson Try checking your relays, it's not common but they can get stuck. They are located under the hood in a back plastic box. Try swapping the relay that operates your headlights with another one operating a separate system , such as the horn. If the lights go out and work on command properly, theres your problem. It's also possible the switxh on the steering column is not functioning correctly but this is less likely on a corolla . Hope this helps Mark
