Thank-you for sharing this. It's nice to see how you use the ha-ganna so well. I have just bought 3 ha-ganna. All the blades come with a bevel angle of 15 degrees I think that the bevel angle needs to be low to give clearance so that the blade doesn't ride on the wood as it cuts the groove. However with such a low angle the edge is not strong. What angle do you sharpen your blade? Your ha-ganna cuts the groove effortlessly! I think the Japanese craftsmen must use soft woods with low Janka rating. For example, Hinoki can have a Janka rating of around 400lbf, which is nice and soft. Or do they put on a secondary bevel?
Would you show us how you sharpen the blades for the canna? 😊

I sharpen with a regular whetstone. When I don't have time, I sometimes use a slow-speed grinder.

@@FLOG7D very nice. I have a hard time with the angles. I made a set, and have been reluctant to sharpen.

Hello. The material is Aomori Hiba, a kind of cypress that grows naturally in Aomori prefecture in Japan. It was four and a half years ago that I made this, so there are no materials left from that time. I regret that I cannot help you.

Love the design. I tried the clean tape on an andon I made. But my eyes are old and I could not find all the tape to remove. 😄

Is it possible to give dimensions of each parts
@FLOG7D3 жыл бұрын
The inner dimensions of one square are 48mm, and the Kumiko parts that go inside are 51.5mm. Also, the width of the material on the side of the square is 3mm, and the width of the Kumiko is 2mm.

Do you sell unassembled kit so that we can enjoy putting the lamp together?
@FLOG7D3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, we do not sell assembly kits. We had such a project in the past, but it was cancelled because we judged that it would be too difficult for the general public to assemble, as it would require machine tools.

what kind of knife you used when cutting in the middle of the wood? I do not mean the kannas, I mean that knife often used as making lines on the wood. I use normal yubido knife to cut that line, but it seems not work perfect, the degree is too big when I was cutting, it is hard to make the pattern connect perfect
@FLOG7D4 жыл бұрын
I don't know what "Yubido knife" means, but it is a tool called "kebiki" that I am using. Here's a video explaining how to do it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5iQqYeCna5pmas

The adhesive used in the video is a common commercial woodworking adhesive. Until about 20 years ago I used an adhesive made from rice flour, but now it is completely gone, and almost no one uses rice flour adhesive.
