It’s taken WAY too damn long to fix this highway. You people are a disgrace.

I live in a state that doesn't believe in zipper merging. They all merg as soon as the other lane opens regardless of how slow that lane is going and how much distance is left in the original lane. One area in particular, the merging lane has about a mile from the point where the two highways meet, to the end of the lane, and 95% of people here will merge into the other lane as close to the start as possible even when that lane is bumper to bumper and the merhing lane is clear. So, I just stay in the merging lane and follow the white line, and i try not to go faster than the other lane but when they're stop-and-go there is only so much I can do before I become part of the problem. I usually end up that mile ahead of everyone else and i just don't understand why everybody here insists on merging this way and why they get so mad about it.

Yeah sure, this is horrible, bikes and cars dont go together! They shoulnd not be allowed to block cars, any resonable biker know NOT to drive on the main road, its stupid, unsave and not faster, there are a lot more possibility's for cyclists to drive than ON THE ONE MAINSTREET!
@rene55127 күн бұрын
The zipper merge only makes sense if there is a standing or slow moving traffic on the highway. Under normal circumstances you should have had time to accelerate to the point where joining the traffic is not a problem
@derdeolifant27 күн бұрын
Not here. Here you make as if to bump the car in front, and THEN the car behind lets you zipper in.

Please show this to the idiots that honk that honk at me for not merging the second the on ramp turns dashed line in traffic. They think I'm "cutting", no, I'm just trying not to make traffic worse?

Pretty hard to “zipper” merge when everyone is tailgating the car in front of them!!😆

In Poland the zipper merge is legally required when the road is congested.

To do this often you need more long enter track to enter safely on highway

Yeah, good luck with that in America. Nobody can drive as it is. I have been working night shift for the past year and lately when I started driving during the day, I have noticed that road rage is on the rise. People constantly honking the horn for going to slow or being more cautious, especially rainy weatherpeople swerving because they’re looking at their computers on their way to work and driving on the highway is like a deathtrap with people driving recklessly but when I look at how people drive in Japan, they have a lot of courtesy

You've got to be KIDDING, IT WOULD BE NICE IF IF THE BIKE PEOPLE DIDN'T CROSS IN FRONT OF ALL VEHICLES AND GO TO THE FAR LEFT AT A RED LIGHT ‼️ THE BICYCLEST DON'T OBEY THE RULES OF THE ROAD 80% OF THE TIME. I'VE SEEN MANY TIMES WHERE A BICYCLEST WILL CROSS THE ROAD IN FRONT OF A VEHICLE AND ALMOST GET HIT, AND THEY WONDER WHY VEHICLE DRIVERS DON'T LIKE BILE RIDERS. DUHHH

As a programmer, I can see the flaw in the thinking here. Zipper merge theoretically works great in slow, heavily congested traffic. However, when driving at the speed limit, people want to merge at speed, and thus merge at the "best opportunity". Others don't like the mental contention that comes with negotiating on a deadline, and thus merge early regardless. There is no amount of "training" that will resolve these two problems. At best, you can reduce the number of people that see it as cheating and try to block the people using the technique. Won't be easy though - since you always have some "ambitious" who want to use the zipper merge beyond what is safe. Even a few of those will create a lot of bad will against those using the technique.

Valid points, and depending on the "goodness" of human nature is the core flaw, of course. The level of mean-spiritedness in the Portland area got notably worse after Floyd criminal entitlement, plus Trump before that. Drivers tended to be polite in older times, compared to places like California.

While the payoff for the taxpayer is NOT immediate the world and this country CANNOT afford to be wasteful with fuel anymore. Anyone with their eyes open knows the EV truck business is a scam and has to fail. These rail lines ARE going to be needed more and more in the future.

Hello! Please, I would like the link to the DMV pages for Redmond Oregon, I need to get my driver's license, send an email to see if there is anyone who speaks Spanish or Portuguese. Thanks 😊
@OregonDOTАй бұрын
Thanks for reaching out Terezinha! Here is the Redmond office's information. www.oregon.gov/odot/dmv/pages/offices/redmond.aspx This location doesn't have a Portuguese or Spanish-fluent staff member at this time, but they are equipped with handheld translator devices so they can better assist you in person. If you have any questions before your appointment though, we do have Spanish-speaking customer service representatives that are to assist you through our customer service line: 503-945-5000. I hope this helps! Take care and enjoy your day!

Most all of these comments are valid. Stop the bureaucratic bs and start making it safer for bicyclist to travel the WHOLE ENTIRE LENGTH of the OCBR. Just one injury or fatality is catastrophic to everyone. Much more signage and flashing lights in blind curves and shoulder less sections would be a start... Strict warning ⚠️ signs for vehicles that ignore speed limits and safer 5 foot rule when passing cyclists; like the type of signage that you see in construction zones. Warning of double fines. I realize that widening sections of roads for added bicycle shoulders would be the most expensive and time consuming. So the added signage that I mentioned above would be a huge start for cyclists. Most of this country treats cyclists like second hand citizens regarding road travel, if that! in many areas. Oregon benefits from cyclists financially every year. It's time for Oregon to go beyond the current conditions to give back to cyclists for their SAFETY! I just thought of this... ODOT could paint a reflective red paint in replace of the normal white paint used in marking the road shoulder stripe as well as the interval road stripes where the road is narrow and lacks safety for cyclists, along with signage. This red reflective safety warning paint would tell vehicle drivers that, that certain section of road has cyclists traveling on it. Give a WIDE BIRTH and SLOW DOWN. Wide shoulders are the best for cyclists, they make us feel the safest. However that takes a lot of time and money. Red reflective road paint (in replace of the white lines), warning ⚠️ signage, and lighting is a lot cheaper, quicker to install. Let's Go Oregon!

This was a disaster for me. Extremely disappointing. Disqualified a few minutes into the test. No explanation of what triggered the disqualification and as far as I know I did not violate any of the requirements unless DMV thinks that my cat was helping me cheat. Of course there's no reason to try again because for all I know the same thing -- whatever it was -- would happen again. The best part is there's no refund? I've been looking forward to moving to Portland for many years but I didn't expect this sort of welcome. Thanks y'all!

Please, bicyclists, stop putting your lives in our hands. I'll pass safely and all that... but half the time, y'all act like you CAN'T get hit. Not Shannon and the kids or Joe tryna get to work - I'm talking about the spandex pro bicyclists that do it for sport and know damn well they aren't actually going anywhere important.
