I think your guest doesn't know how effective battlefield control is. Usually there are more monsters than players Shut down half or more of the enemies is a huge advantage. The point is to have the longer combat you can survive. Or shutting down the BBEG who usually relies on sight for their abilities, while dealing with the minions is battle changing. And your guest forgot that you can stop concentration on this at any time this no longer is advantageous for you like after clearing up the minions. This was terrible advice

I already need to make a correction! The Simulacrum loop has actually not been fixed at all! Yes, the Simulacrum can’t cast Simulacrum, but it can still cast Wish, replicating the effects of the Simulacrum spell. Additionally, Vampiric Touch is unchanged. In summary: good job WOTC, you barely fixed anything lol.

You could use this spell as a non-conflict resolution to an encounter... There is a den of starving bears or jackals and you distract them. A tribe of destitute goblins who suck at hunting are complaining about their starving families and your scout overhears them.

I really excited to see the review of the Monk subclasses. Also I think that the Fighting Style feats are free feats at the level you get them, but you can get more by picking those feats at levels you would get ASIs. Rangers and Paladins get them at 2nd level and the updated Champion subclass gets an extra one at 7th level.

Frightening a creature with every attack is no joke, though. I was playing in a campaign where we were ambushing a dragon, and my allies were behind me using ranged attacks. I caught the dragon off-guard and was able to frighten it, meaning that after it used its breath weapon, it just couldn’t hit us, because it could not willingly move towards us. This was at level 3.

This or Wild magic is definitely the worst subclass for sorcerer, which is a real shame since those two were all we had for many years. Yeah, sorc actually had a reputation for being easily the weakest full caster before Xanathar’s came out, where it was slightly buffed with some actually good subclasses, then Tasha’s came out with amazing subclasses and everyone loves sorc now.

I have played a Dragonborn Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer, this combo grants flight at 3rd level and breath weapon to start. The only way I would play a Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer or maybe as stated in another comment as a Hill Dwarf. I would multiclass out of this way before the crappy 14th level feature and capstone. And yes I do play in some campaigns that last well into the upper tiers of play. But this is not my first choice of sorcerer subclass to play. I still love the Shadow Sorcerer, for its theme.

My DM let me homebrew this a bit. Instead of growing 3d4 inches, my reach increases by 5 feet when I become large. At level 18, it increases by 10 when I become huge. This allows me to benefit from extra reach when I don't have enough room to become huge and brings the subclass up to par with the path of the giant barbarian.

In order to avoid being referred to as being a "squishy" character, I'd love to portray a Hill Dwarf Draconic Bloodline sorcerer because being a Hill Dwarf also gives you extra HP every time you level up!! With 18 Constitution, you'll wind up with a starting HP maximum of 12 HP and then taking the Tough feat at level 4!! That's the only way I'll play a sorcerer so that I can increase my survivability!! Comments, concerns, questions, thoughts?!?!

Or you could take a 1 level Hexblade (or any other multiclass that gives medium armor and shield proficiency), giving you around a 19 AC before Shield. Honestly, padding your AC will make you much more durable (especially in the early game) than padding your HP.

This is undoubtedly a very strong subclass for defense, completely solving the Wizard’s low ac problem without requiring any assistance. This alone puts it in the top 5 of wizard subs, which is good because the rest of this is kinda a trap. You won’t actually be that good with weapons, needing to increase your Dex alongside your int, not having access to the best weapons and the feats that go with them. You’re high AC can also get you in trouble if you are overly confident in it. Nat 20’s always hit no matter your AC, and you still have the very low HP of a Wizard, so you’re still better off staying at range most of the time. Still easily top 5, but there are a few I’d rank higher.

turtle race makes a good one as non dex base since it starts with 17 ac. another good trick is mobility or telekinesis feat so you attack with booming and now you have space between you

I really dislike the design of this subclass. They should call it an armor singer rather than a blade singer. You're not great with a blade as you're likely not increasing your Dex until maybe level 16 but your AC is ridiculously high. It breaks the rules on AC calculations, which only ever add 2 ability scores together if you're not wearing armor. You're going to pick up Resilient Con and so your AC, Wis save, and Con save are high. Your concentration basically can't be broken. This makes encounter building very difficult for GM's. I don't allow this subclass as written at my table. I revised the whole thing.

As a player spell? Creation has some uses but to be honest it takes a certain type of game. In a combat focused game there might be some like blocking a tunnel or a doorway and sum such. But the real fun is in World Building and as a DM spell. There are other spells that can feed people. 1 Goodbeery can feed 10 people a first level spell. Create Food and Water, 3rd level, can feed 12 people. The 6th level Heroes' Feast can feed 12 people. I can't think of any off the top of of my hea... Oh wait, Creation. For the sake of argument let's just say you are a mid level Wizard and you are leading an expedition into uncharted lands and for some reason you DO NOT have a Ranger of a Druid in your group so no Goodberry. I don't KNOW maybe there was a disaster in the homelands forcing people to flee that region. So you have a large group you need to feed. Can you make a 5' by 5' by 5' giant potato thus feeding several people for one day because it is a physical thing? One medium potato weighs like 5 oz. and has 110 calories. The average calorie rate is 2,000. So if you use mashed potatoes that would be 2 potatoes per cup. There are roughly 120 cups in one cubic foot so that would be 240 potatoes per cubic foot or 26,400 calories per cubic foot. 132,000 calories per casting at the lowest level feeding like 66 people per casting. Okay but given the situation that I gave people would be working hard, clearing the land, making permeant structures, and digging wells for a stable source of water. Well lets say everyone needs say 3,200 calories per day. So that would feed 41 people with a slight amount left over which would disappear at the end of the 24 hours. Here is another use. You and your party are going into an underground dungeon, a catacomb, or some such underground structure. Everyone knows that there are some creepy crawlies or a horde of undead down there. Cast Creation near the top of the stairs making oil. That is very large amount of oil. Give it 7-10 minutes to flow and spread every where then light it on fire. BURN IT ALL! If you are in a tight space like a tunnel, cave, hallway, or something like that you can set up a temporary obstruction. Especially if you are in a stone area. So you want to go one way down a cave and there is a thing you need to do and not be found out right away. Well Creation a stone plug. If anyone comes across it then they will have to cut and pickaxe their way through that plug. But you just wait the 12 hours and the plug is gone. In fact you can find an area to take a long rest and do so behind a stone plug that will go away automatically. Yeah I know I am stretching it but that is just the way my brain works. It looks for the most unlikely situation and tries to come up with a scenario and ways of dealing with it. You could set up an automatic timing system. Either it is some type of weight system or a containment. Make a hollow gold block. In side that block is massive amount of Phosphorous submerged in oil. When the gold disappears the oil drains away and then the phosphorous ignites. Find a load bearing structure like a wall, a pillar or other such. Build another load bearing thing next to the first thing but at the base you use Creation and build off that. Now you partial or completely destroy the original structure. That gives you have a timed structural collapse. Go full Wile E. Coyote. Have gears, levers, pulleys and rope. Have it so your contraption is set off by a weight disappearing.

In a world with medium to high amount of magic I can see a slacker going to Wizards school but dropping out after they learn 1st level spells just because they could not be bothered to travel and adventure. "Walk every where? Sleep in tents, out in the wilderness? No thank you." Then they go off and hire themselves for butler or maid service but they don't actually do any of the work. They Mage Hand and Unseen Servant to get work done. The just wander after snacking on the DnD equivalent of Cheetos. Actually there could be a whole "Vocational Wizards School". For the less gifted in the intelligence department, the school loans out Headband of Intellect. The people learn the spells then return the headband.

So there is some problems with unsettling words that should be addressed. The feature is fairly inconsistent at actually changing the outcome of a roll. The main reason is that you have to use this proactively rather than reactively. Say you have a DC 15 for your spell, a D8 inspiration die, and the monster has a +5 to the save. That’s a 45% chance that the unsettling words was unnecessary, and a 15% chance that the die cannot change the success to failure, no matter what is rolled, giving a cumulative 60% chance that the unsettling words is wasted. Now for that 40%, the math gets a bit more complex. It essentially boils down to a 56.25% chance for the die to change the outcome of the save. That all means that on average, your unsettling words has a 22.5% chance to actually impact the outcome of your target’s saving throw. Now that being said, in cases where the target has an exorbitantly high bonus to their saving throw, the chance for unsettling words to help a save land goes up very slightly, but never above 30% except for extreme edge cases. You should really only be using unsettling words when you absolutely have to have a spell land and you are taking any bonus to that probability that you can, as otherwise, I’d honestly advise you to spend your inspiration on your allies most of the time, especially once you get unfailing inspiration.
