Do you have screen bottom board? I bought the screen bottom board but the holes seem large to me. Just curious . Thanks

Easier with queens coloured like yours. Our locally adapted AMM queens, are typically dark covered and move quicker. That makes them far harder to find, so your advice about not needing to find her once you spot eggs is very relevant!

It is great that you get a good price for honey, in Germany the normal price is about 5 to 8€ per 500gr

Step one should be , take a few stings to determine if you are allergic to venom . If so you are done.

This is not how you transport beehives. They didn’t properly seal the hive openings, so most of the bees escaped outside the hive, and now many of them will die. These are people who don’t care about the lives of bees.

Varroa is a huge reason why bees abscond. I had a bunch of hives abscond and thankfully a co-worker told me varroa infestations can cause absconding. Sure enough, once I treated more often I didn't have another hive abscond for years until I put some apiguard in the hive when it was too warm out. There are other things like environmental issues or small hive beetle infestation that cause bees to abscond, but you would probably know if either of those were the cause.

Congratulations On your new home! I’ve never been to the east coast but it sure looks beautiful When I see it on KZbin, we just moved to a colder state from a warmer state as well😂 and I must say what a challenge moving has been, we are tired!! 😂 anyway I hope the transition for you and your family goes as smoothly as possible, and thank you for sharing your journey with us and for all the other videos you have made we’ve learned tons from your videos

Thank you! It's been hard to say the least. We had planned to move in June, but my husband's company had to finish a job so we delayed it until August and boy did that make things hard. Now it's freezing out and we're scrambling to get a lawnmower and sweaters and jackets! LOL I also am exhausted.

All of our friends said they give it a year before we're back LOL Quite a few people we know have moved to the mainland and then came back the next year. I just keep telling myself that my youngest will be an adult in 15 years and then we can move back. :p

Super helpful video, have been rendering wax for the first time this year. A question I have though is why is it bad to render wax indoors, but beeswax candles indoors are ok? Just trying to truly understand before I dive into candle making😊

Good morning, Thank you for your very informative explanations. sorry for your family problems In Hawaii it was like always being on vacation. 😀 the white plate slipped under the mesh bottom is useful for counting varroa falls during oxalic treatment. I only use cryptomeria hives > lighter and better insulation. I know that currently (in France) they make hives in Polownia > light and better insulator. best regards from Switzerland

I live in an area that the government uses lime on the unimproved roads all around me. Is this healthy for the bees or the flowers the bees will pollinate? How about me planting specific flowers around my property, what should I plant or grow?

We wrap our hives with bee cozies and use a quilt box above a spacer with candy board. In the quilt box we have a zippered mesh laundry bag with wood shavings and insulation between the bag and lid. We swap the bag out once a month. Works great to help with moisture. Seven winters and have never lost a hive.
@johngardner1898
@johngardner1898 14 күн бұрын
Your comments about "consolidating" hives for winter by removing empty frames/supers is backed by research. Apparently, single deeps with no empty frames and a smaller cluster, do as well or better as double deeps with excess space, empty frames, or not enough bees.
@johngardner1898
@johngardner1898 14 күн бұрын
I agree with your analysis on moisture. Ventilation is something people think bees need because people need it. If you insulate your top cover, condensation will form on the walls and not drip on the cluster. Excess will safely drain out the front of a tilted hive.
