Feel your pain, was fishing Stuart causeway and took one between my knuckles. Almost peed down my leg

i only own shimano but daiwa people tell me there handles get slack and sloppy over time as shimano stay tight over time , you should try a sustain or twin power .

You can't say that: It's model specific. Some Daiwas are great, some are shite. Some Shimanos are great, some are shite. But if you weren't spending much, cheaper shimano's like a Sedona or Sahara, are better than a Daiwa Laguna or Legalis. As your talking a Malaysian made reel over a Chinese made one. But all that changes as you go up in price points. A Saragosa is all the reel someone ever needs, and best bang for buck reels 6000 and up, but we don't lust after what we just need. I have been selling and repairing reels for a decade. I've worked for both Daiwa and Shimano. I love my Saltigas and my Stellas. Daiwa's monocoque reels are a reel step change in technology though, and Shimano is scrambling to catch up. A 2019 Stella SWC is just a slightly updated 2013 SWB, with a heatsink drag. Whereas a 2020 Saltiga/Certate SW is a whole new design language compared to earlier Saltigas/Catalinas. I have them all, and all the other companies major reels. The new Daiwas are something else, and it will be interesting to see Shimano's next Stella/Twinpower tech, and if they can come up with something as amazing as Daiwas monocoque design. But you can't just blanket say one brand is better than the other. They both have good models and not so good models, and that goes for reels from the past too. Some I love, some I wouldn't touch with a barge-pole, from both Shimano and Daiwa. Daiwa are currently kicking arse in their super high end reels, but if you weren't spending that much, a Saragosa is a better bet than a Daiwa of the same price point, but you should also consider parts and service back up in your area, for each brand. E.g. for years it's been a lot easier to get parts and a service for a Shimano, here in NZ, but Daiwa have clawed back some market, by sorting out their parts and service. Penn here is still a Joke, parts and service wise. Okuma is now doing great here, since they dropped the stupid oval oscillation gear design that gave them a bad reliability reputation. Now they are sorted and give you excellent bang for buck. One standout reel is the CDX 60 and 80 Coronados. You get twice the features and quality compared to a Shimano Baitrunner the same price (but they are getting long in the tooth now and need a refresh, like Daiwa has done with their Freerunner BR), but if you had $250 NZ to spend on a general purpose baitrunner type reel that are popular here in NZ, you would be better off with a Coronado CDX than a Baitrunner D model. As I said, it's model specific. And don't listen to everything you here on the net and reviews by fisherman. Talk to servicers and people who eat, sleep and breathe fishing reels. Not guy's who just rate what they decided to by, cos they likely haven't even looked inside a reel before. Best spinning reel resource is Alan Hawk's website, as he scientifically dissects & analyses spin reels down to a micro level. Cheers from NZ.

Really painful. I got poked by the dorsal spike in my big toe. It literally killed. Are they venomous or just a poke?
@Tan4206929 күн бұрын
For a 500 size reel you literally can’t beat the sienna price/performance wise. For a 1000 size the okuma acuador has both of them beat by a mile for just five more bucks

Honestly I had no idea a catfish could do that kind of damage to begin with! I just recently learned they can croak which sounds weird as hell. I am glad you are alright and have a good friend to look out for you.

I think the reason for Stradic fanboys are those of us who used the originals when they first came out. I've still got four original Stradics from 1992 to 1998 and they all still run perfectly with thousands of days on the water. Best reels I've ever used. Guessing the new ones are not quite as good.

Nice video. No disrespect or anything but enough of the rummer, opinion, and hearsay. Put them side by side, open them up & tear them down! Let's see the size and materiel of the gears, bearings, drag washers, other hardware, and seals. THAT would be a real comparison.

My buddy once had the barb go all the way through his pinky. He was fishing from a pier and took it off the hook. When he grabbed the fish and tossed it, it stuck in his pinky, dangling from it. My buddy started screaming profanities at the top of his lung and immediately went to his knees. There was a stranger fishing next to us who heard and saw the commotion. Poor dude was so scared running to his truck for first aid he slipped and busted his ass so hard.

I want to thank you for an unbiased video! Strictly from a bass fishing standpoint I think Shimano spinning has Daiwa beat and it’s not close.. however I do think Daiwa is getting closer in that category. Daiwa baitcasters are better than Shimano imo

I felt that and I was just watching the video. You should never attempt to snag a catfish...even with a hook removal tool...while it's flapping around wildly like that. People who have never been stung one of these fish don't realize how painful it can be. Not only is it a thick barb piercing into your skin, but they also have a toxin in those barbs which you get a good dose of as well. Learn the proper way to handle catfish, and always use caution. Happy fishing folks!

I was stung last week. After a few hours the pain eased. A week later that spot burns and is extremely itchy. I'm sure this isn't normal but has that happened to anyone else. I was barbed between my ring and pinky finger so yes they rub together. The pain is coming back slowly. Has this happened to anyone else?
