Just like the Minox 35, these Rollei cameras never made any sense for low light/fast aperture shots and, no, adding a full frontal flash does not help get a nice moody low light pic. I used to fantasize using a standalone rangefinder accessory to determine the distance to set on the lens for such shots, but that makes the process way too cumbersome. Integrated rangefinder bodies (Leica M, Yashica Electro 35, Olympus XA, etc) are the only reasonable way to go. Or top of the line AF point and shoots. The Rollei is very pretty and nicely built, but those are its only qualities. At least the similarly specced Minox 35 fits in the jean pocket.

Have never had the opportunity to try a Minox, but it's on my wishlist! But I truly believe that guessing the distance is not very difficult when you get the hang of it. Even in low light. Similar to Olympus XA2, Lomo LC-A, Holga and even the new Pentax 17. Many great cameras with zone focus systems. :)

I bought a Rollei 35S in Penang in 1975 when I was 21 travelling in Asia. I did love it. It did take great photos and 4:54 slides but it was quite heavy in your pocket. It was stolen from under my head on the Greek island of Eos sometime later, but now have a Rollei 35 made in Singapore but it has a Carl ZissTessar 3.5 lens on it .. the Rollei 35 LED was cheaper and quite a bit lighter. I had one of those also but the light meter was not very accurate.

Many batches of the M6 were made in Portugal, the Canadian factory was superior those days. To fit a light meter in the M6 concessions were made by using more plastic bearings in the mechanism and lower quality metals. You are guessing right.

It’s a Leica, but that’s it. People only buy this piece of crap because of the brand name. Most often used expressions in this video is: „It’s kind of annoying“, „it just sucks“, „here there is definitely a bug in the software“ etc. pp. 😂

It amazes me that a company that sold 180k cameras (Leica M9) at 7k at least, can't do a proper software for a camera, or at least borrow it from Panasonic that they are partners.

How do you make a video not even knowing what your actually taking about? Your M4-P does have a top brass plate..the internals are actually stronger as there made from steel rather then softer brass.

Generally, shutter won't fire on the GR1S is caused by a damaged lens ribbon cable, which is a common problem. It costs about $28 to replace the cable in China. However, if there is a clicking sound instead of dead shutter, the gears in the lens used to trigger the shutter may be worn out, which would make the cost of the repair a total of $56. I had the same fault with my camera and after fixing it it worked fine, hope this helps.

This camera today price is way too high , most of them the LCD are not working at all or partially and costly to fix to almost impossible and the electronic is not reliable . Very confused / frustrating when you don’t know which mode is your shooting , shutter sound has weird loud ! Made in Taiwan , I sold it and never regretted , I rather go for others similar point and shot but more reliable and made in Japan and cheaper like yashica T3

I think I can summarize what everybody said below by saying this isn't a good explanation of the product and its largely incorrect. Although kudos for wanting to help people, but this information is largely incorrect. I own two of these, 1 Zinc and 1 Brass and they are excellent camera's I've shot a complete photo show with one.. I've been paid to shoot with this camera... It gets the job done, its silky smooth, reliable, and cool af

I bought a GR1s some years back with the understanding that when it dies, that's it. At this point, the LCD displays, both on top and in the viewfinder, no longer work. However, the camera still works mechanically. I just have to be aware of what mode I am in. I have no indication of shutter speed, but I can guess. Eventually, the mechanics will fail, too, I imagine. I enjoyed my GR1s for the years it was working, and I am happy about that. I agree with you about the old mechanical cameras. My Leica M3, Nikon S2, and Rolleiflex are still going strong, although they are all decades older than the GR1s, and they are serviceable even today!

you can still see which focus mode you are in by looking through the viewfinder. As you scroll through the modes by pressing the mode button the focus brackets in the viewfinder will change to a box when you are in Single Autofocus Mode. From here you can cycle through the modes and navigating to the other modes by number of times the mode button is pressed. There are only 4 modes to cycle through. 1) - Auto mode - chooses focus point for you (nearest object in the middle of frame) 2) - Infinity mode 3) - Single Point Auto Focus mode 4) - SNAP mode (Copy and pasted from a site a long time ago. Apologies i can't remember where)

So great to see your video! I own a 8.2 Safari ... one complete set out of 500 produced. Should put it into a bank safe 🤣🤣🤣. But I love to use it. With the original 28 lens I don't have problems with the frame lines. 100% perfect. Using it at 160 is best. The M8.2 is the "never ending roll of Kodachrome", the best slide film ever made. I shot lots of it!!! Will never sell my M8.2. Am on the go for an M9, full frame with CCD sensor.

As software and processors become a larger part of how a camera takes and produces images, firmware updates will become a big part of updating camera features and performance. Instead of physically creating a brand new camera every year, manufacturers can tweak the firmware to keep the camera current. But Leica has now decided to keep the T 701 model current with multiple firmware updates, with manual menu set priority setting you can zoom focus peak thru botton with precision focus more than 70%-80% you have mentioned with out purchase Leica evf visoflex (typ 020). Leica as promised faster AF, quicker direct touch control, faster start-up times, etc. Is it enough to keep the controversial Leica T current, or at least within the Leica eco-system.

Thanks for sharing yr video. I'm late... I'm the lucky owner of an M8.2 Safari Sets incl. lens and bag - one out of 500 worldwide. Some people say it's a never ending roll of Kodachrome 64. I think you're not from the Kodachrome generation 😉. Yes, the M8 and the M8.2 are a never ending roll of Kodachrome.... but a newer version... the Kodachrome 160 😂😂😂. The red and the blue tones are 100% Kodachrome. If you have grey tones in combo with red, green or/and blue it's perfect. Kodachrome was always my slide film. Kenya1981, US NY WTC 1983 and so on. Never sell an M8 or an M8.2. You will regret it for the rest of yr life. They are the perfect combination of the film and the digital age. Btw: I own an M2, M6, M240, the M8.2 and an SL Type 601.... BUT: Always use DNG format!!!!

BUT, then I started hearing that the LCD screen just burns out at a certain point and most the one I'm finding that has already happened. I also learned they are very fragile and break easily. NOW THIS. You saying that yours just quit working for no reason. I think ... I'm sad to say because I was so in love with the image quality, this is not a viable camera and I should not get one.
