The hydrography student operating the multibeam sonar that morning and logging the discovery, NMC's Alicia Higham, has great instincts and also remembered all her instruction that day. She did everything right! Kudos 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 She was left out of the Traverse City Record-Eagle's coverage, which wrongly credited just 2 crewmembers with the discovery. Shame on her backing institution, Northwestern Michigan College, for not standing up for her. She is thankful to Kongsberg, the company that loaned NMC its superb sonar, for its helpful guidance and great equipment that day and all of the days of the 2011 survey.
