My mother added Sambuca to the dough as well. Anise was incorporated into the dough as you did, but they also spread anise on the breadboard and rolled the dough in the anise seeds. They were rolled into a twist but never flattened.

Can u Please tell me if they are crunchy or soft please ? From Australia
@annab24225 ай бұрын
It really depends on how long you bake them for. Traditionally, this is a soft bread, but my mother in law makes hers very crunchy. I prefer them softer personally. @@mariannagidaro816

Great recipe; just like my mom made them. The whole house smells great. Yes, salt in the boiling water is needed, unless your diet restricts salt. Great music as well!

I don't want you or anybody to get sick or die. This recipe is not approved by the USDA because it is dangerous. Using oil as the canning medium creates an anaerobic atmosphere which is conducive to producing botulism. Many people in Italy and several people in America have become sick and died after eating recipes similar to this.

Chauncey, people have been using oil to preserve food for hundreds of years. Get over it. Notice that the food is mixed thoroughly with oil before it's put in the jars. This is important. Make sure the food is packed down well too and that it's covered completely by the oil. Of course this isn't USDA approved, but tradition overrides it. If you're still afraid, keep the jar in the fridge and consume it in a month or three. I think the spice Gina used was black peppercorns. You can add basil, mint and oregano too.

I follow the recipe to the T, except I divided the quantity by half. They came out good... BUT... I have some questions. 1- Do you salt the boiling water? I didn't and mine came out insipid (Unsalted) 2- Boiled them until they came up floating, then cooked at 400 F until golden. But they were still doughy (raw) inside. Any suggestion as to why that happened? Thank you.

Well done, Lou! KUDOs! This video explains what concerned Windsor residents feel about the current direction of the Ontario government. Minister Dwight Duncan responds and is on tape. Now the job is to keep their feet to the fire on this very important Pension issue. It truly is sad when we must go to these lengths to get their attention. Thanx to all involved and the participants!
