Homes are too expensive. Even if rates go down, the mentality is that prices are too high and will not go up for a few years at least. May go down in fact. The belief that real estate always goes up is changing. Smart people are realizing this.

Anyone buying a house to speculate on and not live in is just stealing from younger generations. The same goes for those buying single family homes to rent out. Completely unproductive activity in our economy and something needs to be done. Houses should be for living in. Not speculation.

Buying real estate in southern Ontario in 2024 is the worst investment in the world. That does not apply to people who bought before 2008. Those people can trade their grossly overpriced real estate with other people grossly overpriced real estate. If I can own a townhouse for 4300 per month with a 200 k down payment, or I can rent that same townhouse for 3500 per month, I would be an idiot to buy, even with the ridiculous rental prices out there. Just putting that 200 k into a bloody GIC at 5% is a profoundly better idea and exponentially less risky. I don't care if they drop the interest rates to 1%. I will not waste my money

They don’t know what they talking about.deposit money goes to lawyer trust account not to builder. Builder use bank loan money to build the house not client money. When client close the house. Builder gets the money from lawyer , pay the bank and keep the profit/loss.

Sold all my rentals in 2021 cause I saw the storm coming. I've been saying breaking point for rent is $2200-2300/month. When it goes above that, ppl will question renting. Our government and media have been sending "fake news" about housing shortage only to prop up REITs and economy....

I am single and make less than 100k a year own a 3 br home and have a jeep grand cherokee overland. it is about where you live and what you prioritize. Could i do it in New York or LA? No but there is a lot of places in this country that are not those. My house would prolly be 1.5-2 million in those places but is sub 200k where i live.
