I use an impact to take it off, but will always torque it back to spec. I’ve snapped bolts before (thankfully easy enough to fix), and I wouldn’t forgive myself if I damaged the hub or the transmission because I wanted to save a couple minutes.

@@ZSmith-yy4lv I’m not using a lot of force, once the nut gets kinda tight the inner hub starts to spin. I’ve never had an issue in 35 years with this technique, the folding lock washer holds the nut so even if it’s a tad loose it won’t come off. Popping this nut or the input shaft threads would be super bad luck.. but it’s also highly unlikely in this particular application with this technique. Ya don’t hold the gun wide open long it’s quick.

@@sawyercustom Honestly nothing against you or your techniques. I have no doubt that it works well. I just don’t trust myself, nor people who may or may not understand what exactly they’re doing to do it properly. As just a hobbyist, I admit I am a bit paranoid when it comes to torquing, but when sharing info to those who may be doing this for the first time, I’ll always advise doing it by the books until you get a feel for just how tight “tight” is. Consider me the stickling hall monitor of time saving tips if you would.

@@DavidWilliams-dv8ii Tony said a 2” with 28s I kinda like it how it is for towing and hauling things. Plenty of torque, don’t wanna burn out clutched with bigger wheels. So I haven’t decided yet. I got the hondalaris going together for my mud trike.

@@EkonRekon while I’m not going to endorse Elka any more due to crap customer service and parts availability. A fox, pep, or axis will have the same specs. I’ll get on that one.

@@sawyercustom I've got a 2001 raptor 660 shock that works with a longer dog bone (off a banshee) on my first build. It's nearly done. I've got two more tri z builds to do tho'. So any help on rear suspension options is greatly appreciated!!

it's always the weakest link that brakes first, I'd rather this gear than the drive motor burning up, or something a lot more expensive.. by design it's supposed to be that way, I'm just really hard on this old machine.
