From elevated tree advantage and the angle of impact, I generaly aim for the joint where the legs, neck and backbone meet. If I am a little off they still go down. That shot was on the mark, took his front wheels out.

Great video what brand of bullets and what grain did you use?

It surprised me to see you lowered the gun to lever in a new cartridge. I am 63 years old now then in my teens to mid 20s I use allot a Marlin 336 in 30-30 I could fire and lever in new cartridges fast without ever dropping the gun down just fire and lever keeping on target. Now since mastering builds for ARs specializing in nonstandard cartridges in AR 10 I pretty much hunt with AR 10s I built in chamberings in 6mm-284 win / 6.5-284 Norma and big bore AR 10 in 375 WSM to match the power of a 375 H&H magnum. These ARs reload so fast I never loose time chambering a new cartridge and never loose site of my target.

Shit blind to take down. Don’t but
@SteveBeckwithOutdoors Жыл бұрын
All hub blinds are a bit difficult to take down, a little practice and they are very simple to take down and bag back up for travel, if you are forcing any hub blind on set up or take down ...you are doing something incorrectly and it will only lead to further human frustration and most likely a broken hub or brace. Work smart..not harder!

Nice video. Would a 300 Savage be as successful?
@SteveBeckwithOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Certainly! Plenty of lead and punch for bear, deer or even a moose! My son owns my Dad's 300 SAV and I own a .303 SAV that works well too! Good hunting! Steve

Pete that's the site you and Todd have hunted, unfortunately it was logged over last winter, but I did trap a bear there this year, so they are still around, just not much for trees!😉

I am thinking about buying one of these. Are the see through panels wind and water resistant??
@SteveBeckwithOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Yes to both, the only downfall during the rain is the porous see through panels cause rain pockets to fill the tiny web holes of the panel material and it's harder to see through. But if you shake the panel and slap it you can clear most of the rain pockets. This only happens with sideways raining. They are quite dry inside, an occasional seam drip in heavy rains. Definitely an advantage!

We do not have the best of luck in New England rattling in mature bucks, I have rattled in does and young bucks out of curiosity.
@jimgallagher493910 жыл бұрын
I live in New England too . I am strictly a bow hunter most off my deer hunting is 25 yards from the edge off a swamp. It seems I can get the racked bucks to come to the edge off the swamps with rattling but then they wait till 10 to 20 minutes after dark before they walk to my tree. Sometimes I sit in the tree for as long as 60 to 90 minutes after legal shooting light waiting for them to follow my scent trail back to where I came from. So I can leave with out them detecting me. But I have found a way to get some of them.
