What a phenomenal run! I know the result isn't necessarily what you all were hoping for, but I'm still so PROUD of how the band has improved and risen to the challenge this year. Your progress is nothing to scoff at, and I absolutely can't wait to see how far you go next year (plus, I hear you still have another competition to go win...). I hope you know that all the hot, intense, long days were worth it to produce something this spectacular, especially compared with the first videos from this year. Congratulations on one heck of a marching season.

Historical perspective. Dean Killion's Band on the field: 1980 4 directors 2 Drum Majors 2 Feature Twirlers 8 Twirlers 16 Zits 20 Flags 240 Winds, Very heavy Brass, 32 Tuba, 64 Trombone, 8 piccolo, 70 Trumpet, a smattering of Clarinet, Sax, Barfytones and Horns. 40 or 50 Alternates just waiting to snatch a your foot and a half! We traveled in eight 47 seat Greyhounds with 16 sponsors, and a band wagon with two drivers. Keith Bearden added more Zits, flags and we took nine Greyhounds, a bandwagon and a 18 wheeler. I remember 326 on the field being announced. After I left, I think KB added as many as 40 more on the field. The current band has a much more symphonic sound due to more woodwinds and the fact that professional grade trombones were provided by the school, instead of intermediate and even beginner horns that we used back in my years. The last Killionite left marching, Class of '88

I was at Houston event to see my Niece in the Blue Stars who have been improving all season and what I can tell you is this recording does no justice to what they did on the field! The hits on the field were stunning. The intonation was impeccable… They dropped the hammer on the Field… I thought they should have placed one place higher but was really good to hear them live for the first time. The full sound Tubas to Trumpets revealing everything and being done so nice….

bit late but i have a friend who sat in the circle for a bit and he said he couldn't hear anyone for the rest of the night, even those who yelled right at him

heat and humidity play into this. Plus the position of the video.

I was at the performance in the stands… when it counted they dropped the hammer in stadium…. They sounded fantastic when it counted… was there to see my niece in the Blue Stars who have been getting better and better all season.

what is the point of all of the them stepping forward then stepping backward?

It's a way of practicing step-offs for marching. They do it to help sync their feet to the tempo of the music.

Bad recording position, on the field they sounded better than all, very even sound front top to bottom and intonation was stunningly brilliant when left exposed I was really impressed.. I think due to sound issues they should have beaten the Blue Devils at that show, they were MUCH cleaner and reminded me VERY much of the Viral Dropping the Hammer in Houston. The biggest difference was they were moving and sometimes FAST while achieving it… Do not judge by this video… should have been IN THE CIRCLE!!! Hat tip from an old Trumpet Player I was DUELY IMPRESSED!!! With the on field playing!!!
@EROSSMUSIC5694 ай бұрын
@ewetho I actually have been inside the circle with them this year and got to see them perform up close and they definitely were not as solid as years before.

What do you think of the DCI Southwestern Championship scores?

at most corps, the directors don't typically stay for the whole tour, it's actually rare to find directors stay for most or the whole time. They all have responsibilities outside of the drum corps world and take breaks, some longer than others. Harloff being the head director of Avon HS, i'm sure he has his hands very full during the summer, that's why we have assistant caption heads for every caption to trade off the responsibilities when the other needs time off. But yeah I do agree i've seen him take more time off this tour than usual.
@excidium87294 ай бұрын
Its usual for harloff to not be there every contest. Except for the finals week, then he'll be there the whole week. Thats the week where all the extra's come in, in their book.
@EROSSMUSIC5694 ай бұрын
He's been there the entire time but idk what he's been doing because they would have their drum major do the hits
