Hello Dr. Samy. Thank you for the explanation. But, I have a question. How can I find the fading coefficient for Nakagami or Rician? Example: h for AWGN is 1 and h for Rayleigh is (rand+(rand*sqrt(-1)))/sqrt(2)

Hello Dr, please advise if this is true when M increases: M-ary FSK Bandwidth increase BER increases M-ary QAM Bandwidth decreases BER increases M-ary PSK Bandwidth increase BER increases
@SamySSoliman
@SamySSoliman Жыл бұрын
Hello, Well, for such comparisons, we usually consider the BW and the BER in orders of magnitude, i.e. if we say it increases, that means it increases significantly. Accordingly, as we increase M: For FSK: The BW increases significantly, but the BER almost remains the same, or just increases slightly. For PSK and QAM: The BER increases (assuming the same average symbol energy), but the BW almost remains the same.

If you use Matlab, There is an excellent tool that can give you quick insights to the changes in BER. The tool is "bertool".

Thank you for your inquiry, and best of luck in your pursuit. Regarding your question, it is definitely possible. However, the real challenge is not in Digital Communications or DSP themselves. It is mainly in the fundamentals that are needed to understand and follow-up those topics. For example, you need some fundamentals about statistics (this should be easy for you), Fourier analysis, vector calculus, types of systems and classes of signals. So, spending sometime in reviewing/studying those fundamentals will make the core topics in DSP and Communications much easier. If you need some recommended references for those topics, I can provide some. Best of luck.

We have an OFDM signal of 40 MHz, and its baseband version I and Q signals drive two independent Low Pass Filters (LPFs) for pulse shaping, and each LPF is a cosine roll-off filter, so, please, I want to know the mathematical equation that allows us to calculate the cut-off frequency of this filter (ideal case) , As we know, in practical case maybe it is different, I get it by simulation, so I want to calculate it also theoretically (mathematically) for comparaison purpose

First, thank you for your comment and your question. Second, regarding your question, I assume you are using those filters for widowing purpose at the CP to avoid spectral growth, right? If this is the case, then the choise of the roll-off depends of the length of the CP and how many samples are within. An example of that can be found in these couple of paper: ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/8713090 ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/8651816 I hope this helps!

@@SamySSoliman Thank you prof. Samy, no, low pass filters are used for pulse shaping, my question is how we can calculate mathematically cut-off frequencies of these low pass filters for both I and Q baseband signals (I have OFDM signal for example at 20 MHz); whist roll-off factors are clear !!
@SamySSoliman
@SamySSoliman Жыл бұрын
OK, I see then. Because there is windowed-OFDM and pulse shaped-OFDM. In the basic principle of OFDM, ISI and ICI are sufficiently mitigated through cyclic prefix (CP). With pulse shaped-OFDM, other motivations are included. You will find a nice discussion in this paper: jwcn-eurasipjournals.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s13638-017-0849-8

Sure. The first expression has 2 parameters; s^2 represents the sum of the squared means of the two components of the Ricean variable, and sigma^2 represents the variance of the amplitude gain of each of the two components of the Ricean variable. The second expression also has 2 parameters; K is s^2/2 sigma^2 and Omega represents the second moment of the amplitude gain, and is equal to s^2 + 2 sigma^2.

@SamySSoliman
@SamySSoliman Жыл бұрын
WiFi. kzbin.info/aero/PL0052IEIwYNQU0Ouf0oqCPq_rbzkVzIe8

@SamySSoliman
@SamySSoliman Жыл бұрын
Thank you dear friend. I meant that it is not accurate to say ADSL provides wireless connectivity. Years ago, the home device to which you connect the phone line (over which ADSL is used) had no WiFi module. In that case, you had to get a separate WiFi module (access point) and connect it to one of the ports of the ADSL router to have WiFi coverage. Now, that device is 3 in 1 (ADSL Rx, Router, WiFi access points). And for your main question regarding using OFDM in WiFi; Yes indeed. The WiFi TRX includes a baseband digital processing unit that implements OFDM, in addition to RF units for frequency conversion to/from 2.4GHz or 5GHz.
