Good Job on the Video, Any chance you have an update on this? how are you getting on with it? Do you actually end up using it?

Great video and well explained! Thanks for the Video, your not sowing this under Plastic, any reason for this?
@jtownley908 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. We offer both maize in the open and maize under plastic to customers. The plastic maize would cost the grower another £180-200/ac resulting in approx a few weeks earlier harvest. It's down to personal preference. It's kind of like paying for an insurance. Personally we grow our own maize in the open and it will do just about every bit as good.
@deadstack8 ай бұрын
@@jtownley90 Thanks for the Reply, you might be the best person to ask then in terms of Volume and Tons returned per Acre what is the difference and is that why it makes sence putting it under the plastics! Also that planter looks the business, say it will do a great job
@dannycrooks84628 ай бұрын
Was wondering about that as well
@jtownley908 ай бұрын
@@deadstack all depends on the year. Last year alot of maize came out around the 37-40T/Ha mark. I honestly don't think there was a vast difference between the plastic and open Maize but we didn't get to see alot of plastic maize over the weigh bridge. Majority of maize that is sold off field would be drilled in the open. If maize is valued at £50-70/t it's definitely not going to do 4T/ac more to justify the price. All is gained would be an earlier harvest date. The best maize we cut over the weigh bridge was in the open and yielded 44T/Ha. As for quality and feed value of plastic and open Maize I couldn't comment on that as that's done on farm in the winter time.

Seen what I assume is some of your fields down the ards peninsula done like that, looks so much nicer to the eye without the plastic. Also, saw your grass outfit the last week there, very tidy 👌

Thanks, we got the trencher in the mid 80s ('84 I think). It was new to us then but came from a drainage outfit from Fermanagh. From what I know Bruff came from Shropshire which is now the McConnel factory.

Enjoying your content James. As an idea for a video would a comparison of your New Holland versus John Deere tractors work? Pro and cons of each brand? Are the John Deere worth the premium price?
@jtownley9011 ай бұрын
Yes and no. We've different tractors do different jobs and are spec'd different to allow them to do the jobs more efficiently. Hopefully get a good chat about the main fleet when they are all out during the summer.

We do stubble to stubble arable (wheat, barley, oats, maize, oil seedrape), grassland, land drainage, so in one day could be spraying, drilling, fertiliser, combining, baling, lifting silage etc.

Why can irish farmers receive a grant to buy Slurry but specialist contractors not get the same grant?
@jtownley90 Жыл бұрын
That would be far too logical. It's based on the number of head of livestock you have on your holding. In fairness it's to stop people receiving a grant and then monopolizing on it. Sadly contractors who do most of the work have to fund it themselves unless they also have a large farm then they claim it for their farm but use it for their contracting outfit.
