Why did you cut down those nice big, old, carbon sequestering trees?😢

massive downvote for cutting down the mature trees. Such a shame.

You have done a FABULOUS JOB! We are soon to buy an old weatherboard house on 3 acres. On one side of the house the paint is badly flakey. We’re not sure what the best approach is yet. Do you have any tips?
@ericchow45074 ай бұрын
One thing I will say is check if old paint contains lead because that will change how you remove flakey paint

are you guys still making videos
@AncoraImparoPiper8 ай бұрын
Could you please explain what colours you used for which areas? So it was natural white on the weatherboards, then vivid white for the window frames? Surf mist on the soffit and/or the area above the windows?
@AncoraImparoPiper8 ай бұрын
Nice work. So when you say the house was last painted in 2008 so you are sure there is no lead paint. That assurance would be only valid if all the paint was first removed and then painted. How do you know that was the case and they didn't just paint over the lead containing paint? I'm in the process of doing the same thing to my weatherboard Queensland so it's good see you do it first :)

why do you need to scrub the weatherboards if youre sanding? wouldnt sanding clean it anyway
@SunshineStateHome9 ай бұрын
After sanding, I needed to remove all of the dust. It's a messy job and you don't want sanding dust mixed in with your paint. Scrubbing it down will ensure the paint finish is really beautiful.

Never ever ever caulk where the boards join.
@nnaheim.2 жыл бұрын
How come?
@simpletonballsack2 жыл бұрын
@@nnaheim. Timber boards expand and contract. Caulking will just crack open under the force.
@SunshineStateHome9 ай бұрын
This is certainly a personal preference. We choose to caulk with a high quality, flexible, external caulk and it's still holding up after all of these years. Our weatherboards are able to expand and contract without letting drafts, dirt, insects etc in with it.

@SunshineStateHome2 жыл бұрын
We’ve never had a quote for our house, but family members of ours have been quoted between $20k & $30k for their Queenslanders. It all depends on the homes condition of course. Definitely worth the time and effort for us 😊

From start to finish about how long did it take? I’m trying to get courage to paint my house
@SunshineStateHome3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gemma! It is a little hard to say because once I fell pregnant the progress overall slowed right down! On average each side took us just over a week which included sanding, caulking and painting. I was working on them full time, with the help of my husband on the weekends. Having a single storey home makes it a lot easier, and we have all of the scaffolding and equipment ready to go.

Wishing you every happiness in your lovely home, and good luck with your planned changes. Thank you for sharing. Love the bay windows with the window storage seats. Brought back memories to this great-gran of sitting curled up on cushions with a book. You said ceramic basin in the laundry but they’re laundry tubs. The lady of the house would have used a washing board, and had a wringer mounted between the two tubs. Long before the laundry held a washing machine it would have had a copper. That’s how we did the washing back in the day!! I see that your toilet being a big enough room could now have a basin plumbed in for convenience! I’m thinking that your kitchen would probably have had the original stove along the wall so that it was less of a concern for fire risk. I would not think it was in the pantry which appears to have been the original pantry. Back when it was a new house the pantry was very important. Most housewives made their own preserves, jams, cordials, and kept good supplies of staples in the pantry. Nobody could hop in the car to zip down to the grocer’s for things! In the backyard they would have had a chook shed and run, and a lemon tree in those days too. Just after your house was built the Great Depression came in 1930 so a vegetable garden was a necessity. A pot of mint near the back door as it spreads everywhere if planted in the garden. Great for keeping flies at bay, and handy for the cook I liked you showing us through and just talking. My only complaint; I wasn’t keen on your music which seemed too loud in spots. I enjoyed your blooper segment!
