Prince use to carry around a small case of Boss pedals. He'd put them in his signal chain(including in his master recordings)anywhere he thought they sounded good. He wasn't restrained by convention, I always liked his big guitar sounds.

Great job on this. I learned a lot. Someone else may have mentioned this already but the busy lead on “Stone Fox” was played by Lonnie Mack, minus his trademark Magnatone amp

@@dannyeddyguitar While you're there... love your stuff on James Brown's guitarists, that's what brought me here. I learned a lot of these grooves (and who played them) from a book called The Funkmssters: The Great James Brown Rhythm Sections 1960-1973.

Here is some info for everyone. All guitar solos on princes albums up until purple rain were performed by Dez Dickerson the lead guitar player of the band this is a fact and is written in the notes on the 1999 album " all guitar solos performed by Dez", at this time prince was just playing the most phenomenal rhythm guitar ever. He really became the lead player from purple rain and later when Dez left the band. princes music however took Dez's playing to another level, and direction.
@dannyeddyguitar5 күн бұрын
I'm not sure about this claim, Aaron. Surely it is unanimously recognised that Prince wrote, arranged, composed, produced and performed entirely his first two albums. Where did you get your info?

Hi Danny do you also backup on the volume knob of your guitar, I find some frequencies very harsh especially on ES style guitar for funk playing. I usually set the volume around 8. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that

Thanks, Romain. Yeah, those high output humbuckers are a bit bitey at times. TBH I just use the input vol control on my interface. But I should use the guitar vol more regularly.

That melody reminds me of music someone would use to take their clothes off. Like the old fashioned go go dancers. My aunt had ran a policemans club with a bar , stage, game room and BANQUET hall where the stage was. I saw somethings I probably should not have. As a tween. I am 57. The Question of U is one of my favorites from Prince.

Above all, you are the most awesomely humble, informative and educational guitar talk vid presenter ever. And, for me at least, free of annoying accents haha! I've found a thing recently where I pull downwards for a bend, then release - but straight back into a bend where I'm pushing the string upwards. Four notes in what feels like two simple movements, quickly and easily :-)
@dannyeddyguitar20 күн бұрын
Yeah! That's tricky for me. I can never get the two bends to sound the same.
@joaofigueiroa926325 күн бұрын
Loving your videos as always, Danny. One more I can think of is a 'forbidden' neck bend rather than a string bend. When fretting low on the neck, hold the guitar's body firm against the waist and bend the neck to lower the pitch half a tone. My guitar takes it well, but probably not recommended for everyone :D
@dannyeddyguitar20 күн бұрын
Ohhh! Great call! I love that one. It makes me cringe to watch people doing it. Like, "You'll eventually break it!" But at solo acoustic gigs, it always happens.

You dig deep, with so much skill but also the effort and respect to understand what he was doing and showing us how - When i first heard this song, i wanted to play it so bad and seeing people like you break it down and simplify it like this just helps us a little bit more. ooh, that's sweet sounding Danny! Lovely tone an playing (as always). You left out my specialty - the always out bend. I do have a question. I note that GuitarPro allows you to do a 2 step bend. Do you know if anyone out there does do a 2 step bend (as in an actual recording). Cheers, Joey.
@dannyeddyguitar26 күн бұрын
Haha - the Always Out! Thanks, Joey. You actually reminded me of a massive, glaring omission to my list - the microtonal (or 'out') bend. Like Clapton and SRV were so amazing at. For examples of two step bends in classic rock, check out Dave Gilmour and Terry Kath - he does a couple on 25 or 6 to 6.
