I think the concept of holding while looking makes sense sometimes. It's often easier to get a job if you have one, too. But that focus aspect is strong. Plus there's the mental health toll if the environment is legitimately toxic (as opposed to just annoying). So... I think I agree with both sides on this. As to quitting over firing... Weigh the consequences. Resignations don't come with unemployment, and that's a significant concern sometimes. I honestly believe this sentence is out of proportion. No doubt the killing was evil and no doubt a punishment should follow, but life in prison is living according to the principle 'an eye for an eye' and i think that is not ok. They do not seem purely evil ppl and a punishment should be proportional. It seems this is not really justice. I prefer staying while I search. First off, sending off resumes to other companies feels good and relieves daily stress. Secondly, you won't have to settle for a job that sucks worse than what you have now. Reject the jobs that are not worth it. Focus on the ones that are. And most of all, financially its much better. Not only do you have cash to pay your bills now, but a salary that you can use to negotiate your next job. No job = bottom salary for that position.

I had a bit of both. I was working for company A, that had me assisting with assembling some parts for company B that they worked with.. It was the building next door. I was fed up with the shit show and left half way through a shift on a Friday and texted my supervisor that I don’t want to work with company B anymore which my boos told me was optional with no pressure. Keep in mind my boss seemed chill and understanding. I had gotten frustrated once before in years of working there and he let me leave for the day. Anyway came in on Monday to my boss telling me I quit. 😡 i understand I could have handled the situation better but that was just lame. He even tried to gaslight me claiming he told me I would be an employee for company B from once I started so me saying I didn’t want to work with them anymore was me quitting my job am together. He absolutely told me the exact opposite multiple times that I would remain a company A employee. I was furious. I dedicated my life to his company and he just threw me away. He was even a family “friend” who talked me up for years about that I wasn’t meant to be a grunt and that’s all I ever was for 3 years. Looking back he also hired illegals and also broke the law by telling me I can’t discuss pay with other employees. This man was always all friendly with smiles. What a covert scum bag.

The longer you stay, the more you are pushed to you-know-what and do what NEEDS to be done. And they KNOW it and go into defense mode to villify, criminalize, demonize, smear your character and credibility. Sometimes you need to step out on faith vs go to prison for committing justice.

I think it really depends on if the new employer you're applying/interviewing with actually does an actual, legit background check on you. If not, you're good to go either way if you got fired or quit your previous job(s).

Going through quite firing right now 😅 They gave me a memo of failed tasks with 30 days to improve my performance. I find those bogus, as I'm the only senior accountant meeting the deadlines. I was let go 3 months before I was going to leave (I was just waiting for my last stock grant). My ego didn't like it, but it worked out great because I got a severance payment that roughly equaled the stock grant, but without the pain of putting up with a stressful, crappy job for another 3 months. So, sometimes being fired is much better.
