Nice one Joanne & David. So I think I'm right in saying that the addon license "Microsoft 365 E5 Info Protection and Governance" will give you Disposition Review rights along with many of the other desirable E5 only capabilities in this area - so M365 Business Premium plus this addon will give you much of this capability without requiring E5 As always we have to spend too much time thinking about licensing :-)

Hi Ian. Unfortunately this is not the case. The add-on SCUs you are thinking of are actually split into 2 now. There is the E5 Security and the E5 Compliance. You can get Security and Compliance together only with the Frontline (F) licenses. Disposition review is part of the E5 Compliance Add-on and not the E5 Security. (A great comparison can be found here: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkID=2139145&clcid=0x409&culture=en-us&country=us And to throw some salt on the wound you cannot group Business Premium with the E5 add-on. It has to be an E3-based license. From www.microsoft.com/en-ca/security/business/compliance/e5-compliance?activetab=pivot:overviewtab: "Customers currently licensed with Enterprise Mobility Security + Office E3, Microsoft 365 E3, or a version of these suites that does not include Microsoft Teams, are eligible to purchase or try E5 Compliance. Fantastic videos, thank for all the amazing content! I did have a question however. Is there a way to get rid of items in the preservation hold library? Someone inadvertently pushed out a policy that holds items for 5 years and now have tons of junk (non-records) documents in PHL we can't get rid of. Even after adding the site to the policy exclusion, they won't delete.

Sorry that we missed your question John. You likely have found an answer by now, but if you haven't or someone else has the same question answer is unfortunately no. The only way to remove from the PHL is to remove the policy that is holding the documents in place.

Great topic! I explored the event-based retentions last year, but was a little disappointed with the implementation. It felt like this part needed more work. Some things didn't even work. I might need to give it another try.

Event-based retention has some gaps, yes. But we do find it does accomplish a lot of what many organization's need. Were there specific things you were looking to work out. Send us an email at [email protected] and we'll be happy to review and discuss it in a future episode.
