I’m this close to ordering a yellow 480. My only question is, can it be stored vertically? The bow and stern are quite sharp. Do you think a pool noodle at the bow, resting on top of rubber mats with foam will prevent the bow from getting damaged if I store vertically?

really random questions, but since I'm a taller person and want to buy this Kayak, which I can obviously not checkout anywhere in person, could you do me a favor and measure the distance from the back of the seat to the max extension of the foot pedals, as well as the distance from the front of the seat, to the the max extension of the foot pedals? I would highly appreciate it with my 38" inseam and buying blind.

It is hard to measure, but I will start with the shortest setting, which is what I use. I have an inseam of 30”. The front of the seat is at 23” and the back is at 38”s. I judged the front at the start of the bait tank. For the longest setting, the front of the seat is 31” and back is 46”. I hope this helps.

The mount is recessed, so it may limit some of the view on the left side. You probably need to extend the transducer down to clear the middle.

Hi Opinon Master... I.m 5ft 11inches and weigh 110 kgs.. will the fusion 480 suite me.. or should I consider the 525 or 555
@opinionmaster3476
@opinionmaster3476 3 жыл бұрын
The fusion 480 and 525 advertises a max angler weight of 130kg. The 555 advertises a max angler weight of 140 kg. The numbers represent the length of the boat (4.80 m, 5.25 m, and 5.55 m). Also the Fusion 480 is rotomolded plastic/foam blend, which can take a beating, which is why I chose it. The 525 and 555 are Stealths typical fiberglass layups, which are fantastic but need to be a little gentler when handling. If performance and stability are your main factors and like the idea of a fiberglass kayak, then I’d probably look at the 555. If you want a rotomolded plastic kayak, then the Fusion 480 is for you. My 2 cents.

Hi, Thanks for the video. I see the rudder cables are rubbing against the kayak plastic. Wouldn’t this damage the kayak?. Also I am wondering why you needed to put black sealant around the fiberglass compartments, did you have water leaks inside ?
@opinionmaster3476
@opinionmaster3476 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Eduardo, As I've been using the kayak, I've been watching the rudder cables and see how it wears on the plastic. I was worried about this as well. At this point, the cabling isn't very abrasive, so I haven't noticed any damage, but this is only 4 x 1/2 day outings. I was looking at potential guards or adding a plastic hose. Stealth put the black sealant around the fiberglass compartments. I think that this was to make sure that water didn't enter the rear hatch. I don't see it as an issue for the live bait well because it is designed to fill with water, but if you want to block the scuppers, you could make this a dry compartment. Thanks, OM

Hi @Opinion Master, great to see some experiments on film. I've made a few little alterations on my Fusion so far- 1. Transducer. I used a Garmin Striker too. I took the bottom half of the scupper out, but left the top half in. I was able to zip-tie this and the bolt that goes across the transducer together. I then put some layers of rubber between the transducer and the hull in order to level up the transducer. 2. Transducer cable - I ran this through the side wall of the main hatch, as shown by Brett in the Stealth video on it. 3. Securing the battery cable. My battery at present sits in front of the internal partition. With two of the strap anchors on the right leg side, I took a screw out of each (20mm) and replaced them with 30mm. This means that one screw on each strap anchor now touches the other side of the hatch lip. I was able to run my battery cable above these two screws so that they remain in place. 4. Garmin on hatch lid - yes, I did mine the same, but I build a housing to go around it, in order to keep splashes off the unit and to give shade for ease of reading. I layered this housing first in black duct tape, then white duct tape. I find the Garmins over heat really easy in direct sunshine - or maybe that's just the fierce Okinawan sun? 5. I'm not convinced that the scuppers are actually that beneficial, given the speeds I paddle at on the Fusion, so I've taken all mine off. Have yet to paddle it without them yet, so will have to wait and see how it goes. 6. As 5 above in the live well. I took the scuppers out and placed two bungs in the holes instead. That way I can keep it dry and lighter when I don't want it as a livewell. But it's easy to let the water in when I want to. 7. Pedals and footstraps. I don't have to smash through surf here, so I removed the footstraps. With my surfing wetsuit booties on I find the steps between pedal settings not quite right for me - I wanna be half way between two spots!, so I put some EVA, about 1 or 2 cm thick on the pedals, secured with zip-ties, in order to give me better leg drive and a more comfortable paddling experience I thnk that's about it for now. Looking forward to seeing what else you and MooMoo come up with. ps like the quick entry rear hatch. Owen

1. I posted a little more detail on my transducer mod. It sounds like you did the same thing as Moo Moo Adventure. I also decided to go with the through hull cable mount. It came with the fish finder and turned out nice. 4. Do you have a picture of this sunshield, I'd be curious. 5/6. Inside the live well, I can definitely tell that when I am paddling the live well is filling with water. I put in the rubber gaskets to let the water sit longer when I'm sitting still. I'm curious if the live well works without the scuppers.

Any thoughts yet on having all venturi scuppers removed? I tried it with mine and I found that they do a lot to keep the boat drier / lighter / faster so I reinstalled mine. I had taken them out because the don't come very well-fitted from the factory so I modified mine to fit flush with the bottom of hull.

@@anoregonspearo5957 for the transducer mount, I removed the Venturi scupper, but I filled it with foam. I also kept them in the live well because they tend to move the water fairly well. I have experimented with ways to block the hole. Mixed results; nothing great to report yet.

Hi MooMoo, you have great videos. Thanks for the warning on pinched cables on the hatch. Since this video, I actually installed the included through hull port that came with the fish finder. I absolutely love the kick up rudder, but as you may have seen, I have already bent it because I was impatient. I got tired of dragging every piece of kelp especially in the La Jolla kelp beds. Very good eye, I only removed the partition in the hull to potentially get access to the rudder lines. I was thinking about replacing the wire lines with the rudder braided line but not sure if there are sharp edges in the hull. I also thought it would allow me to put longer poles, but it isn’t that convenient.
