I came here to say the same comments I have been reading. ! This layout totally immersed me into it. I could smell the creosote on the bridges. I could feel the heat from steam engine. A tremendous amount of work or the absolute labor of love that was put into this railway is absolutely astonishing.

Enjoyed your videos, Mr Nelson. What are the passenger figures in your coaches? We've been looking for early 20th Century figures, but have had little luck finding them. Yours look perfect.

Incredible work you’ve done! When I lived in Denver, I visited the worlds largest model train store located there. I forget the name of it, or if it’s still there, but it was such a unique and fun place to see how vast the model train industry is! -Cheers!

Nicolai - Glad you enjoyed my railroad and thanks for watching. You mentioned having enough space. I have seen some neat small patio Gscale railroads that had built 2 flower planters (approximately 2 feet tall) along one side of the patio - then built two trestle bridges 2 feet tall to connect the 2 flower planters in a continues oval loop. This couple only ran 1 short passenger train around and around, but they were having a blast with it most evenings after dinner until dark. - Bud 😎

I am glad that you enjoy trains and glad that you enjoyed visiting as well as riding on my back yard Rio Grande Railroad. Believe it or not, I can still picture you in class, although I'm sure you look all grown up now. Tennessee is such a beautiful state with mountains and Country Music everywhere. I have relatives that live in Tullahoma, TN. so I do get down there once or twice a year. Do take care Brandy. - Mr. Hunter

And your story telling about different aspects of the layout. Also I loved the 1955 blue and white Ford Crown Victoria and the 1957 Chevrolet Nomad station wagon. It is hard to imagine the time you had invested in building this railway and all the landscaping to bring it to this level. Even at this point I know a lot of time is spent maintaining it. I grew up "playing" on real trains since my dad was a station master if a small community depot. That depot is now part of a mussium.

Thanks Galen for taking the time to write me. Now that I am retired, I have more time to maintain the railroad in a proper manner. It is big enough to look big, yet not be overwhelming to trim, weed and take care of. I had HO trains for a long time, but being outside to enjoy the great outdoors is better than being in a basement surrounded by walls, furnace, water heater, etc. etc. - Bud

Who makes the mail car
@nelsonhunter6690
@nelsonhunter6690 Жыл бұрын
Hi Mikey - Its called "Kit Bashing". (Nobody produces it) (1) I started with photos I'd seen in Rio Grand RR Books. 2) All my passenger cars are LGB, so to get a good match, I took an LGB Baggage Car and purchased from LGB the shell only of a passenger car. (3) I carefully measured and with a Dremel tool, cut out two "3 window sides" of the passenger car shell and filled them in where the Baggage car doors had been. (fill any gaps in with lightweight spackling available at any paint store) (4) I also ordered 4 baggage car doors from LGB parts. Again with the Dremel tool, I cut these 3 window doors down to 2 window doors. Had to also cut out 2 door openings per side on the LGB Baggage car sides to fit. (5) Security bars on the windows is brass wire cut and epoxyed in place. (6) Car was sprayed with dark green paint, although an olive green might be more proto typical. (7) Lastly, I ordered custom printed gold lettering from SHAWMUT CAR SHOPS; 307 North Michael Street; St. Marys, PA. Check out their website for more info. Sheets of decals are $20 each + $5 shipping. Lastly, I will tell you I did this project in 2002 when LGB maintained parts on everything! My LGB dealer was happy to order any parts I needed for any projects. Good luck Mikey. With Winter coming on, this is a perfect Winter project I think you can easily accomplish. - Bud Hunter
