There are a lot of bad comments on that album. I also like other arcade fire albums a lot but this one is so interesting. The modern sound is on purpose of course, there's a very electrical, superficial feel to it ( yes commercial almost, exept, if you make anyone who usually listens to mainstream music listen to it they'll tell you there's too many weird noises ), just like the cover image, it's a commentary on the superficiality of our society. There's a lot of background noise, signalling being lost in a sort of electronic hell. The lyrics are also very intersting, they go over very difficult subjects in a subtle way sometimes with very cheery singing, making the contrast even more disturbing. I did not like the album at first either, but now I think it's brilliant. I also think that it points at the superficiality of people who will listen to it once, declare it's too mainstream without even taking the time to read anything into it, which is a brillant move, but also a very risky one. It takes after Bowie and songs like Reflektor.

J'ai adoré comme d'hab c'est hyper complet tout les albums y passent ainsi que les singles + les anecdote de carrière... c'est du super boulot. Ok, it's not Funeral, it's not The Suburbs. A more commercial sound, agree. Probably, and knowing AF, I think that was their intention all along, not to give themselves more popularity, but to play ironically with the overall message and concept of the album into its music. We couldn't see it as clear as now when it was released, because we were all expecting another musically complex masterpiece by them, and they knew it was going to have a mixed reception. But still, I wish most radio music these days was only HALF as good as this record is. Enough said.

Arcade fire have just lost the compass with this material. I almost feel sorry for this.

The Arcade Fire-Brigade. They don't put fires out......they start 'em. Next thing you know you can't stop listening to them. With every album after listening to it once I'd think "i like those two songs but that's it" and then you find yourself addicted to every song almost on every album. yep, they'll start a fire in your being that's for sure.

My guilty pleasure - ahhh gotta love the weird appeal - best AF album so far.

The second time I heard it, each song transitioned really well and the overall theme of the album came through. And the third time I fell in love... it is soo good!!!! I've been playing it everyday for weeks, cannot get enough. Loving the irony of that. Coming from a long time fan. Arcade fire is genius, I'll put my money on them.
