Another great classic on a superbly well kept disc. My late father was a huge fan of Jim Reeves. Countless times we sat together to listen to Jim's music. Such wonderful times, now just a cherished memory.

This is just one track on Capitol's 'Honky Tonk Piano' album, and I believe I have all known U.S. versions of it: The original 78 RPM album (three discs) The 45 RPM album (same three discs) The 10-inch LP (eight tracks) The double EP album (eight tracks) And the 12-inch LP, expanded all the way to 12 tracks. That's a lot of piano! 🙂🎹

First time I heard this was in that year or following year when on a day trip to Bognor Regis. Almost opposite the Pier is a green and there was a Marquie. In that Marquie were Puppetiers who controlled a Skeleton which they danced around to this very tune. I always remembered this as a six year old boy!

Sorry but I have to say that was one of a number of pointless and awful re-hashews of older classic songs that surfaced in that malaise era. The recording itself i.e. condition of the record is very good though and stands as a useful historical record.

Please upload the flip side. Crinoline Waltz which I think was composed by the Scottish pianist Joe Henderson. Don't know why he didn't record it himself. Novelty pianists were all the rage during the '50's (Winifred Atwell, Russ Conway, Joe Henderson, Crazy Otto, Frankie Carle) and even into the '60's with Mrs Mills and Bent Fabric. The record you have uploaded here outshines them all.
@IVORIESMANАй бұрын
Ok Jeffrey, will look it out and upload it when I get the chance. Yes it is credited to Joe Henderson. Not certain if Will is on piano for that track though...
@jeffrey3895Ай бұрын
@@IVORIESMAN Looking forward to seeing this up on KZbin. The sheet music is nigh on impossible to find. I had to badger a seller from England who does not usually ship records to Australia to sell me a 45rpm pressing of this record. My 78rpm copy is still in good shape but if it got broken it would be impossible to replace. The audio on your upload is very good. Those Garrard changers can be used in auto single play mode by placing the record directly on the turntable and flicking the auto start switch fully whilst holding the stacker arm up and keeping it aligned with the edge of the record. Then bring it to the centre and let it drop as the tone arm falls on the record. Stacking the records and letting them drop will ruin the centre hole in the record. The only safe mechanism is the type A Garrards which has a pusher mechanism to the side. I wrecked a bunch of 78's before I caught on. Your record looks to be in near mint condition.
@IVORIESMANАй бұрын
@@jeffrey3895 …when I acquired this record it came with two other records from Will but I was a little disappointed because they are not piano but accordion. It seems that records with Will on piano are quite rare. PS. Not sure about the auto single play you refer to - in my experience if the stacker arm is up the mechanism responds the same as for a 7 inch record.

Surely "Lesson one" isn't the true name of this song? It's hardly a piano practice piece.
@IVORIESMANАй бұрын
@@Ladeenian …Lesson One is the title of the tune that Russ plays ‘badly’ at the beginning of this track. Budding pianists have traditionally attempted to play it, usually being their first attempt to play something listenable. PS. On reflection I recall it consisted mainly of the black notes which meant no need to worry about those pesky white notes getting in the way…😊
