Hindustan is derived from carnatic and with influence of Persian music style. Carnataka Shastreeya Sangeenta is unique. The instruments play a major role in influencing the music style , especially Alaap Hindustani is known for alaap since sitar can emit sound for longer duration. Karnatic alap is also an important aspect but but extremely alap oriented, since veena can't sustain sound for longer duration. Need to be plucked often But legends can sustain for long duration

Hi! I have a question - what about the sound of the sitar and tanpura, are there are any core differences (to a musician's ear)? Thank you in advance :)
@ilovehomies
@ilovehomies Жыл бұрын
yeah a lot. it seems that the tanpura is more of a bass while the sitar is more of a higher pitched instruments (mainly). thats why you hear tanpura in the background in most mantras
@Navatman
@Navatman Жыл бұрын
the tanpura is a drone meant to hold a singular set of notes - like an ongoing pitch pipe. basically for a musician to attune their music to. there is no melody played on a tanpura. the sitar is a musical instrument that plays a melody - an actual song

When MSS amma sings this, tears flow from the eyes automatically. That is simply because she sings with ananya bhakti. This rendition is near to that.
