Hardie Board is brittle, heavy, and needs painting way sooner than they claim… I think stucco is a better choice.
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel7 күн бұрын
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! You’re right that James Hardie siding has some unique characteristics-it is heavier and can be more brittle compared to other materials. Proper installation is key to minimizing those challenges. As for painting, their ColorPlus technology is designed to last longer than traditional paint, but if it was field-painted, the lifespan can vary depending on the climate and maintenance. Stucco is definitely a popular choice for many San Antonio homes because of its durability and energy efficiency. That said, every home and homeowner’s needs are different, and it really comes down to what works best for you. We’re always here to provide guidance on all options so you can make the best decision for your home. Let us know if you have any questions-we’re happy to help! 😊

Can you install cement siding on top of stucco walls
@TheHomeSolutionsChannelАй бұрын
Great question! Yes, you can install James Hardie fiber cement siding over stucco in many cases, but there are some important steps involved. At Southwest Exteriors, we often recommend installing a furring system - a series of thin strips attached to the stucco surface - to create a stable, level foundation for the new siding. This system helps improve insulation and airflow, reducing the risk of moisture buildup behind the siding and ensuring a smoother, more secure installation. Every home is a bit different, so we always suggest a professional assessment to determine the best installation method for your specific needs. If you’re curious about how this process could work for your home, we’re happy to help!

Hey there! 😄 I appreciate the vivid imagination! But I promise we don’t do business that way. We actually specialize in James Hardie siding because we believe it’s the best option for South Texas homes, but we don’t sell or install stucco. Our goal with this video is to help homeowners understand their options and make informed decisions, no matter what type of siding they choose. For example, as stated in the video, for a typical 1,500 sqft home, the cost of stucco siding usually ranges from $8K to $20K, depending on the specifics of the project. Nowhere near the $100K you mentioned. For your peace of mind, all of our employees, including the crews, have an average of 7 years of experience, and we make sure they’re paid fair wages for their expertise. So you wouldn't have to worry about who we send out to your home. We’re all about quality work, not cutting corners or playing games. As for the golf 🏌️♂️, I do enjoy a good round, but I’d never miss out on making sure our projects are done right. 😉 If you’re ever curious about siding options or have questions, feel free to ask. We’re here to help you make the best decision for your home, not just what’s best for us.

I had a JH certified installer install the siding on my two story house in 2020. Some of the siding is tight to the board above it and the board below it but others are lifting on the sides and at the bottom of the board. I was able to lift a couple of the boards at least 1/4 of an inch away from the board below it and there are gaps between some of the horizontal boards. why would this happen? Thanks
@TheHomeSolutionsChannelАй бұрын
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience. I’m sorry to hear you’re dealing with these issues, especially after having your siding installed by a certified professional. Based on what you’ve described, there are a few potential reasons this might be happening. One possibility is improper fastening during installation. If the boards weren’t nailed securely or evenly, it could cause some to lift or shift over time. Another issue could be related to temperature changes and moisture. James Hardie siding does expand and contract slightly with changes in weather, and if there wasn’t enough room left for this movement (like the boards being installed too tightly), it could lead to warping or gaps. Lastly, gaps between boards can sometimes result from improper alignment or even slight shifts in the house’s framing. If you’re noticing these problems, it might be best to have a professional come out to inspect the siding. They can check if there are any installation issues that need to be corrected. Since you had it installed by a certified James Hardie installer, you may also want to reach out to them to see if there are any warranty options or solutions available. I hope this helps, and if you have more questions or need guidance, we’re here to assist!

Pressure washing hardieplank voids the warranty, you’re supposed to use a garden hose
@TheHomeSolutionsChannelАй бұрын
Thank you for your comment! You are absolutely right, pressure washing James Hardie siding can void the warranty, and we should have been clearer about that in the video. The best way to get it cleaned is with a garden hose and a soft brush to avoid any risk of damage. If you do decide to use a pressure washer, make sure to keep the pressure under 1,500 psi, use a wide fan tip, maintain at least 6 feet of distance, and spray at a downward angle to minimize risk. However, it's probably best sticking to a garden hose to ensure the warranty remains intact. Thanks for helping us improve!

Asbestos siding has a bad reputation, but it's a great product. If you paint it, it looks great. There's really nothing to be worried about as long as you break it. You can do it yourself aa long as your wear the appropriate attire and the right type of respirator.
@TheHomeSolutionsChannelАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! You’re right that asbestos siding can be durable and look good when maintained properly. However, we always recommend extra caution when dealing with asbestos, even in siding. While it’s true that asbestos isn’t harmful if left undisturbed, breaking or cutting it can release dangerous fibers into the air, which can pose serious health risks. We always advise homeowners to consult with a professional when working with asbestos materials, to ensure proper removal and safety precautions are taken. If you're considering a project like this, feel free to reach out to us for guidance or referrals to trusted professionals in your area! 😊 Stay safe!
@genew5758Ай бұрын
You can even remove asbestos siding without breaking it if you're careful enough. I've seen people do it. Always wet the product well with soap and water, wear appropriate attire and you'll be ok. Best part of all, you'll save thousands. Most important part is keeping the dust level down by wetting it. Asbestos insulation on the other hand is far much more deadly because the fibers aren't made into a product like the asbestos shingle. Asbestos tile, 9x9, poses almost no threat either. Simply, tile right over it or seal it first and then tile over it.

Whats your opinion on using an epoxy base coat and then applying polyaspartic top coat
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel2 ай бұрын
Great question! Using an epoxy base coat with a polyaspartic top coat can be a solid option, as long as it's applied correctly. Epoxy is known for providing a strong, durable base, while polyaspartic top coats offer great UV stability, faster curing times, and excellent resistance to wear and tear. However, it’s essential to make sure the two coatings are compatible and applied by a professional to avoid adhesion issues.

A contractor you referred to us face nailed the bottoms of each run my house looked like swiss cheese and it cost me an additional $500.00 out of my pocket to have the painters caulk all the nail heads. So what do I have to worry about my siding failing in the future.
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel2 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience, and I'm really sorry to hear about the trouble you had. Here are a few more steps you can take to help protect your James Hardie siding and prevent future issues: Seal and Paint: Ensure the siding is properly sealed and painted. Quality paint can act as an additional barrier against moisture. It’s important to repaint as needed, especially if you notice any peeling or chipping. Inspect Flashing and Joints: Check the flashing around windows, doors, and other openings to ensure water is properly diverted away from the siding. Also, inspect the joints between siding panels to make sure they’re caulked and sealed properly. Gutter and Drainage Maintenance: Keep gutters and downspouts clean and functioning. Proper drainage helps prevent water from pooling around the base of your siding, which can lead to long-term damage. Professional Inspection: If you're concerned about the installation and potential future problems, consider having a qualified siding contractor perform a thorough inspection. They can help identify any weak points and suggest specific repairs. Taking these extra steps will help safeguard your siding and extend its lifespan. Let us know if we can help further!

How to properly install James Hardy cement board pin backs
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question! Properly installing James Hardie cement board with pin backs is crucial to ensure long-lasting performance and I think would be a great future video so stay tuned for that. To answer your question, here's a general overview: 1. Ensure Proper Spacing: The boards should be spaced correctly to allow for slight movement and expansion. This also helps prevent cracks. 2. Use the Right Fasteners: Make sure you're using corrosion-resistant fasteners like galvanized or stainless-steel nails or screws. Pin backs should be installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. 3. Secure Placement: Pin backs are typically used to secure the board from behind, so ensure they are spaced properly, usually 16" on center for studs. Follow James Hardie’s installation manual for exact specifications. For detailed steps, I recommend reviewing the installation guide specific to your project, as it provides instructions tailored to different climates and building codes! 🔗 www.jameshardie.com/installation-instructions-technical-docs/ Let us know if you need more info and THANK YOU for checking out the channel!

I found a certified contractor, but I’m still having problems are the so-called pin backs OK to use and is it OK to caulk between the siding boards if you use the proper recommended caulk
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question! It’s great that you found a certified contractor, but I understand your concern. Pin Backs: Pin backs can be used in specific situations, but it’s crucial they are installed according to James Hardie’s installation guidelines. Typically, these are not the standard fastening method for fiber cement siding. You may want to double-check with the contractor to ensure they are following manufacturer recommendations. Caulking Between Boards: In general, caulking between the siding boards is not recommended for James Hardie siding. The boards are designed with gaps to allow for natural expansion and contraction. Filling these gaps with caulk could restrict movement and lead to future issues, even if the proper caulk is used. The preferred method is to leave the required space (around 1/8 inch) between the boards for proper function and ventilation. I’d suggest referring to the James Hardie installation guide to ensure everything is being done according to their best practices. Let me know if you have any more questions or concerns!

Hi, thank you for this video. I have a question, based on the information in your video I feel like my mom’s house might have a foundation issue; however, can the weight of solar panels also contribute to cracks in the ceiling?
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel2 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching and for your question. It's great that you're being proactive about your mom’s house. While foundation issues are a common cause of drywall cracks, the weight of solar panels can indeed contribute to ceiling cracks, especially if the roof structure wasn't designed to support the additional load. I recommend having a professional inspect both the foundation and the roof structure. A structural engineer can assess the impact of the solar panels and determine if any reinforcements are needed. This way, you can address any potential issues early and avoid more significant problems down the line. Good luck, and feel free to ask if you have more questions!

"potentially" lowering energy costs? Maybe you will help me decide. My house is 70 years old and has old single sash wood windows. Thank you for sharing about your situation! I just recently got new windows in hopes of fixing this exact problem, the verdict is still out for me, lol, but you're absolutely right that replacing your old single sash wood window with a modern double-insulated one could indeed help lower your energy costs. Double-hung, double-insulated windows are designed to provide better insulation, which means less heat from the sun coming in during the summer and better heat retention during the winter. This can help keep your room cooler naturally and reduce the workload on your window AC unit, potentially lowering your energy bills. James Hardie siding, along with the proper fire-resistant barrier, can enhance your home’s fire protection. @TheHomeSolutionsChannel4 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and for your question! The cost of repairing foundation issues can vary widely depending on the severity of the damage. In a worst-case scenario, where extensive repairs are needed, costs can range from $20,000 to $100,000 or more. Several factors can increase the cost, including the size of the home, the extent of the damage, the type of foundation, and the need for additional repairs like plumbing or structural reinforcement. It's best to get a professional assessment to understand the specific situation and get an accurate estimate. Early detection and repair can help minimize costs and prevent further damage. I live in North Texas. I had this done to my two car garage and it cost me $2000 even. If you are spending five to $7000 on this, you are getting ripped off.

Thank you for sharing your experience! It's great to hear that you got a good deal. Costs for polyurea garage floor coatings can vary widely based on several factors such as the size of the garage, the condition of the floor, the specific materials used, and the labor costs in different regions. North Texas might have different pricing dynamics compared to other areas. It's always a good idea for homeowners to get multiple quotes and understand what's included in the price to make sure they're getting the best value. Thanks again for your input!

Can you share more of what you actually had done for 2 car garage? Polyurea? Lite, medium, or full broadcast? Any top coats? any crack repair? $2000 sounds like the cheapest stuff with low solids and low quality mix.

Thank you for your comment! Improving energy efficiency is a great way to save on energy bills and make your home more comfortable. There are indeed several effective methods to enhance the efficiency of old windows, such as using weatherstripping, adding window film, installing storm windows, applying caulking, and using heavy-duty drapes or shades. Each of these options can help reduce drafts and heat loss, leading to better energy savings. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!

"If you're just looking for a quick fix" (i.e., if you want to just do a half donkey's but job), "you need to sell your home quickly, & you want to just pretty the garage up a little bit, or make the patio look a little bit nicer" (i.e., you want to just put something down that won't last & stick the next homeowner with the headache a few years later)... oh, or spend thousands of dollars getting certifications and tools, or hire an expensive contractor that's going to do a half donkey's back end job anyway. Nice promo video.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I understand your concerns about the potential downsides of quick fixes and the costs associated with quality work. Polyurea coatings, like any home improvement product, need to be applied correctly to be effective and durable. While some may opt for cheaper or quicker solutions, it's important to weigh the long-term benefits of professional application versus the initial costs. Our goal is to provide balanced information so homeowners can make informed decisions based on their needs and circumstances. We appreciate your input and hope our content helps viewers make the best choices for their homes!

One thing that wasn't mentioned was the longevity and maintenance of these shades.
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel4 ай бұрын
Great point! Longevity and maintenance are definitely important factors to consider. Cellular shades are generally very durable and have a longer lifespan due to their unique design, which also makes them easy to clean with just a light vacuuming or dusting. On the other hand, roller shades are also quite sturdy and can last a long time with proper care, requiring simple wiping with a damp cloth for maintenance. Thanks for bringing this up! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! 😊

We use a 94% purity rated Polyeura/Asporatic coating with the company I work for.
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel4 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing that! A 94% purity rated Polyurea/Aspartic coating sounds impressive. High-purity coatings generally offer superior performance, including better durability, chemical resistance, and faster curing times. It's always great to hear about products that maintain high standards, as they can significantly impact the longevity and quality of the concrete surfaces they protect. Do you have any tips or experiences you'd like to share about working with these coatings?

75% of my fiber cement is cracked. Can this be repaired or do they need to be replaced. It's not good quality siding and I'm sure it was a quick installation.
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel4 ай бұрын
I'm sorry to hear about the issues with your siding. Cracks in fiber cement siding can sometimes be repaired, especially if they are small. However, extensive cracking might indicate a more significant problem that could require replacement. Poor installation often leads to such issues, as proper spacing, fastening, and sealing are crucial for fiber cement siding's durability. It might be best to consult a professional to assess the damage and determine the best course of action. If you need more information on what to look for, feel free to ask!

Was that one picture of the rotten corner you showed over and over even Hardi siding? It looked like rotten wood to me.

Hey Steve! Great eye. Yup it's wood. The only rotten siding video I've been able to capture is wood or something other than Hardie. So I snuck it in there for effect. lol

@@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Ha ha! Thanks for letting me know. I was thinking of getting James Hardie siding. My old siding is falling off the house. Who's great idea was it to use particle board with a paper lining on top? They didn't even paint the bottom edge, so you can imagine how well that worked. I want something that won't rot and can't catch on fire. I'm in a super high fire danger area. I was looking up problems with James hardie siding, hoping to get an idea of how good it was and what kind of problems, and mostly it looked like installation issues, and otherwise I don't see any reason not to get it. Thanks for the video!
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel4 ай бұрын
@@steveswoodworking2504 Hey @steveswoodworking2504! I'm glad the video was helpful. James Hardie siding is a great choice, especially for areas with high fire danger, since it's non-combustible. It also resists rot, pests, and weather damage better than wood or particle board. You're right that most issues with Hardie siding are due to improper installation rather than the product itself. Make sure to hire a reputable contractor who is experienced with James Hardie products to get the best results. If you have any more questions or need further advice, feel free to ask! Good luck with your siding project!
