Why don't you get more laundry baskets and use up all your strawberries?
@gardeningwithcaitlin23 күн бұрын
There were hundreds of strawberry plants. I used the laundry basket, 8 containers, and a pocket pouch thing that hangs on the fence with 36 pockets or something like that. After all that, I still had too many to possibly plant and keep myself. It was time to gift them to others since I probably had another 100 left. Plus they multiply with runners like crazy every year, so if I ever need more, I'll always have plenty. The laundry basket was an experiement. If they survived our winter, I thought about getting another one and doing it again. They did not survive this past winter. We get cold enough here to where strawberries survive the winter in ground or in a bed better than they do in containers. Thanks for watching!

There's so much to harvest and put up right now! The season is coming to an end very soon! It seems like earlier than ever
@gardeningwithcaitlin23 күн бұрын
yes so much to harvest! My average last frost date is mid oct. When is yours?
@southernskytngarden29 күн бұрын
Great job preserving! Always like seeing what others are doing. And also awesome pear tree harvest. Even if it's four within your first year planting that's fabulous. What time of year did you plant? Really want to and get one and should have years ago when we bought our house and started our garden out here in Tennessee. I get pears from the neighbors and canned them.
@gardeningwithcaitlin23 күн бұрын
Thanks! I planted the tree in May of last year once the frost was over but before it go too hot. I think you can plant a tree any time in the growing season, except towards the end of the season because you want the roots to establish more before the winter comes. I hardened it off for a while before planting it as well. I put it in a home depet bucket with dirt, kept it inside by the window, hardened it off outside, then planted it a few weeks later. I started to leaf out and establish while inside for the winter. I got this one from Gurnery's. Its a 2 in 1 asian pear tree.

Great video! I hope your toes didn't get in the way of the tomato avalanche. I feel ya on forgetting things. Especially when filming it is so hard to talk, do things and remember the correct amount of ingredients. Thanks for sharing your struggle with the pressure canner. I am so worried it won't work correctly and we get sick. The sauce looks delicious!
@gardeningwithcaitlinАй бұрын
lol my toes were fine. i know right. its hard to do things like normal or think through things when the camera is on. ive gotten better at feeling and acting more natural which takes time to be able to do. yea i must be doing something wrong with the pressure canner. ugh. as long as it seals and doesn't look or smell bad, then itll be ok. are you going to get a pressure canner soon? The sauce is yummy!
@AtHomeWithKariАй бұрын
@@gardeningwithcaitlin Glad to hear you toes escaped unscathed. I would love to get an electric pressure canner but it isn't in the budget right now. I hope you figure yours out if not it may be covered under the warranty.

yes try growing him some corn! Just make sure you only plant one variety of corn at a time because the cross pollination will effect the kernels in the same year.

@gardeningwithcaitlinАй бұрын
o sorry! I'll try to do better. I know what you mean about that feeling. I don't get that feeling when i'm editing it, but thats on a small screen in the editor. So, I didn't realize it. I'll try not to speed things up so much going forward. The corn video coming out tomorrow is sped up, so hopefully it doesn't do that to you too much. The gopro is one of the better cameras for stability and can handle motion while keeping focus, but then I speed it up so it won't be boring and I guess thats not helping much .
