Am I right in thinking that where you create a hard edge (using smoothing grouping?) it does not apply a subdivision on that edge. This allows you to subdivide and keep hard edges where you need them?
@Aliismail3D
@Aliismail3D 3 ай бұрын
Yes. It subdivides but it doesn't smooth or "relax" the mesh around that edge. If you are not familiar with 3ds max it's easier to think of it as an OpenSubdiv crease, only much more flexible than OpenSubdiv. Internally, it treats that edge as if it were disconnected. This way I can easily block out whatever I want while keeping hard edges intact.

@@Aliismail3D Yes this makes a lot of sense and its a genius method. I look forwards to trying it. These two videos are so good. I learn something new every time I watch them but this little nugget of wisdom will really make a huge difference. Thank you again.

Anyone know where I can get some good reference images for modeling my first car? I've tried modeling cars before but have never finished any. What's a good car to start with? I need a good set of blueprints! Every blueprint I find is always somehow off for some reason. preferably looking for a 3rd generation escalade (base model, non esv)

ok sweet but how to fix this reflection issues? for real...
@Aliismail3D
@Aliismail3D 3 жыл бұрын
You cannot completely fix it in polygons, but you can only reduce it a bit or in the very least understand that it is there and do some "damage control", for more read my tutorial on this subject: www.ebalstudios.com/blog/modeling-cars-polygons
@DaNil-ws8bc

@@Aliismail3D I have read that article, but still I haven't get idea how to fix issues, what to do how to move vertices, retopology etc to decrease reflection issues
@Aliismail3D
@Aliismail3D 3 жыл бұрын
I can only give general guidelines which are: -Use as few vertices as possible. -Try to evenly space edge loops or to use any curve tools available for vertices or to make the change in edge loops density gradual. -Make any trims or cuts across any surface only after you have finalized the surface and have sufficient subdivisions. If you haven't already you can watch the timelapse of the S-class I've made, are the results perfect? Nop, far from it. that's why polygons are limited in that regard.

You guys have some seriously impressive explanations of these workflows. I always link people to your content when trying to explain these modelling concepts. For anyone who has had any experience with Alias diagnostics views... In Maya you can replicate the Zebra lines from Alias Studio Tools exactly using a Ramp with stepped interpolation and an env ball texture in the Hypershade. I think you need to check on "Eyespace" and get set the amount of pins in your ramp to a whatever looks best for you. Also check out: www.stepanjirka.com/download/ This guy has made plugins for Maya that enable Curvature Comb, Curvature Diagnostics Shading, Cross Sections & a Stitch Generator plugin.
