Especially loved tip to put valuables in coat pockets. What you didn't address was sequence. I put my shoes, liquids, carryon & personal bag (w/o valuables) on the belt 1st, electronics 2nd, & passport, wallet & boarding pass last (in coat pockets) LAST. That way I'm more likely to be at the other end before they come out to avoid theft. Thank you!

Different. I have some alpaca pieces (from PAKA) and I find it to be much more "wooly" than merino, which can be woven so finely that is resembles cotton more than wool.

Actually, you should try to steer clear of plastics against your skin. Feet are especially important for this as we have the most pores on our feet. But if you want to keep on wearing plastic and encouraging that entire ecosystem then at least eat a lot of fermented foods so that the lactobacillus can help you break down all the microplastics getting absorbed in your body.
@NoraDunn4 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tip! I hadn't considered the effect of the recycled plastic material on my feet in terms of microplastics.

re blanket, I use a micro fibre/fleece towel as both a blanket and pillow (as needed) They come in bright (easier to Not forget) colours, absorbs fluids, easy to clean. Sometimes I put it down first to sit on in those hot vynal seats on some busses or cheap airlines. it practically eats back sweat on long hot rides. I do a lot of tent camping so then it becomes a pillow. The more I use one the more uses I find for it. The kind that feel more like a chamois are best but low budget camp towels work well too.

Nice clean tips for those who haven’t spent hours with Gflights. One thing is sure, US departures for a flight to Europe are definitely more expensive than the other way around and the airlines 🍆 us big time!! Unfortunately, that’s the US market unless you live near a border or can find a super cheap flight to another neighboring country for a cheaper flight.
@NoraDunn4 күн бұрын
Yes I have occasionally found flights from Europe to the US are less expensive than the other way around. If you really want to get creative and can plan ahead (and you go to Europe often), you could book a one way ticket to Europe, then for your ticket back to the US book a return ticket.....making the return date your departure date for your next trip! I don't personally do this because I can't plan that far in advance, but for some people it works.
@peteaulit4 күн бұрын
@@NoraDunn yes that works BUT you'll get hit with a high fare unless you take a "low-cost" airline that sells one-way tickets for half the price of a return. Even then, it's still more expensive based on my research. If you have time, try the Queen Mary II. It's business class for a week NY to Southhampton and return with a cheaper airline.

The biggest problem with the security line is caused by those who come up to the conveyor belt completely unprepared. Whatever your routine is, just have one that has you thinking ahead. Whatever little thing you can do before hand, do it! Those that just absent mindedly arrive unprepared and slow up the line are a nightmare to the traveling public.
@NoraDunn4 күн бұрын
I agree! I personally pack my carry on bag so that it is easy to access the things I need to remove for security. Then I repack after security if necessary.

My comment is that in March-April, 2024, my ATM debit cards - for Schwab bank and Navy Federal Credit Union - both got hacked in Vietnam. I was not at all hep to any of the scams and skim machines at the time. When I got back to Thailand, where I live, and found out online about some charges that had been made I was able to get the people at Charles Schwab bank to cancel bogus charges and the debit card and send me a new card. But the credit union phone reps gave me a hard time. They claimed bogus charges could be not be made without someone using my PIN number. So? they were insinuating that I ripped myself off.? I think that some crooks in Vietnam sold the skimmed info to a professional organization that immediately started making charges below my daily limit. Charges were made in two other countries on the same day that I made a WD at an ATM at the airport in Bangkok. On top of that it seemed that my cell phone got scammed or hacked. Malware injected ?? So I could not make my calls to the NFCU at first. I had to - am not sure if I got a new phone then or got that phone cleaned out and re-set - and then I had to use an extra country code to call out of Thailand to the credit union's international number in the U.S. Eventually they did make good on those bogus charges. They did not lose anything since they are insured, right? But my advice is to be careful about using your cell phone for financial matters. Whether it is pure malice or bungled attempts to steal from you by phone it makes life more complicated and dangerous for you.

Oh no! Did you try clearing your cookies and searching again (and/or using an incognito browser)? Some people say this works (though my research indicated it doesn't). The other possible cause could have been that the airline was still holding the seat/ticket you were trying to reserve, and it was the last seat available at that price. Sometimes if you wait 10 minutes then search again, the airline releases the other ticket from hold and you can book it at the original price.
@jeanneelliott72434 күн бұрын
@NoraDunn Yes, I use incognito browsers and even other people's computers ar their house to explore prices. Prices go up with each query, once they know you want those dates. I clear cookies after each search, and always at the ending each day. Some companies don't allow me to search or buy using my VPN. I own property overseas, rainforest that I bought 45 years ago to protect, so I have to travel at least 2x a year. Sometimes the flights are so expensive that I have to buy in segments and spend extra layover time in an area. I usually rent a car and find a safe spot to sleep, which is usually much cheaper than a hotel room, especially as one day is two nights, in most cases. I usually get the lowest airfare available, but I spend many hours doing so, and sometimes change travel dates. I've seen all the airlines' tricks. Now, they want to charge for carry-on. Buggers!!

Something to consider when looking at flight prices vs. layover length vs. using airports near rather than at your location is the cost of your time. I value my time at $60/hour and use that as a guide when I'm shopping for bargains. Is it worth it to have a 12-hour layover in Heathrow? Maybe...guided in part by how I value my time. I don't use the concept as a strict rule, but it helps me to decide between, say, a flight that gets me there for $200 more but 'saves' me $400 in time compared to a flight with a layover or a long drive from the airport.

is it true to search in the wee hours or the middle of the night or early morning?
@NoraDunn4 күн бұрын
I did some research into this, and I believe it's a fallacy. If you think about it, what time zone is the airline doing this with? Eastern? Pacific? What about Europe, or Asia?? I don't believe the airline systems are sophisticated enough to set individualized prices depending on the IP address's time zone. The same goes for searching on specific days of the week - my research indicated this is more of a fallacy, though it is true that airlines will regularly (perhaps weekly) adjust prices based on how many seats have sold to date. Here are some other videos I created based on the above points and similar research: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2WwiaN5g6dgrqssi=K_YaPsUCQkbwehLp kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZK1h4RomtB8kM0si=AlzKukAqSTjg8R1w

When buying packing cubes, one of the most important things to look for is the dimensions of the cube that will go best with your luggage and not waste space. I've found that the Peak design ones are the most versatile size to go with all the luggage I have and not have weird extra spaces left over and unused. This includes a large suitcase, a Minaal travel backpack, and a couple Peak Design bags, which these cubes are made to fit with perfectly. With the other brands I looked at online, you usually have to buy a set with a bunch of sizes that you don't need to get the size you want. That just ends up being wasteful, especially when you're trying to pack a suitcase. With the PD ones, you can buy them one at a time. I bought packing cubes a while ago, and for me, the peak design ones are the best by far. Yes, they are more expensive, but totally worth it for the build quality and the features. You'll be less likely to have to replace one later on due to a zipper breaking or something like that. They've got good compression, and the tear away opening feature is far more satisfying than you would think until you use it.
@NoraDunn8 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with Peak Design cubes! Their cubes are differently sized from many/most other packing cubes out there. I also find they're larger than most others, which may or may not work well for some people. Great point about making sure the cube fits the bag/case well.
