Encouraging your students to consider careers as plumbers or electricians is a great idea. These trades offer strong job security, competitive pay, and opportunities for entrepreneurship. Plus, skilled tradespeople are always in demand, making it a stable career choice. It also allows them to gain hands-on experience and potentially avoid the high costs of a traditional college education. By promoting these careers, you're highlighting the value of essential skills that society relies on daily. How do your students generally respond to this suggestion?
@HollywoodEditingMentor
@HollywoodEditingMentor 24 күн бұрын
Just to clarify, I'm not encouraging my students to consider careers specifically as plumbers or electricians. I'm just saying it's important to be open to other opportunities. For example, one thing that comes to mind are editors who have been recently promoted to the chair. They might be struggling to find work right now since so many experienced editors are available. Competition is fierce! So maybe those people will need to look at assistant editor jobs. That means that their goal of growing an editing career might have to take a backseat at the moment. Or maybe if they wanted to keep editing scripted TV well maybe now they go work in local news. Those are just some examples. Then there is the whole idea of just finding a completely different career. I do think it is important to have a plan B, or at least think about it. But I also do mention that we shouldn't just give up on our goals completely. It's a case by case basis honestly. We have to look at our specific situation. The main thing here is to just be open to change and trying other things, and to understand that maybe right now we will have to put certain goals on pause. This video was inspired by a recent group coaching call with my students so it's a topic that's clearly on a lot of peoples' minds. I think they respond well to this suggestion, but it might also be something that takes a while to digest. I say this from my own personal experience dealing with this topic. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!

Thanks for sharing! This is really insightful. I know it's a stream-of-consciousness-type video, but would you be able to add video chapters for videos like this? The actual content doesn’t start until about a minute in, and the first thing you talk about is getting coffee-both sections I might have skipped.

hey Joaquin, I think it might be cool to see what your day looks like when you're between jobs, if that's not too intrusive. Like what do you do to decompress from the last job, what are you doing to prep for the next one, how do you keep structure in your life or do you, how are you honing your skills or learning new ones?

Do you have a "client monitor" -- that is, a dedicated monitor only for showing the Record side of the Avid composer window? How do you set it up?
@HollywoodEditingMentor
@HollywoodEditingMentor 7 ай бұрын
I do have the ability to connect a client monitor at home using a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Monitor box, but I stopped using it because the desk isn't big enough and the fact that clients don't come to my house to view material. At the office I do need it since I work with directors and producers. Thanks for watching!

You guys worked on Griselda for about a year? That’s crazy! I thought it should be at least 6 months considering the amount of editing is needed for such scale projects, especially the Narcos: Mexico seasons. You guys are the absolute legends, and I’m glad I found this channel as I’m a very big Narcos series series fan myself and enjoyed Griselda a lot as well! It’s interesting to learn how these series were edited. I’m not an editor or something like that, I mainly do KZbin shorts for my channel and some small edits from time to time. I know it must have been tremendous amount of work on these Narcos: Mexico and Griselda projects, tons of editing and lots of experimenting too. I have a question. I know there’s lots of material which didn’t make it to the final version of the series. Maybe you guys have some Narcos: Mexico stuff (bloopers for example, and of course moments that got cut out). That’d be awesome to get my hands on that kind of gold as it’s not available anywhere and I guess only the editors perhaps have the possession of it. Would love to share it all with more people on my Narcos fan community. Just asking, if you don’t have it or don’t know if someone has it, that’s okay. Just let me know. Also you got a new sub!
