Congratulations!! That’s so great! So I’m not the person in the video but I did a little research and they definitely have different STEM clubs and activities such as their Science Club and Math team. If you scroll down on their Inside Schools link, Brooklyn Latin has an IB program and you can find all of their STEM class offerings which they have a lot of(! Such as algebra 2, chemistry, physics, IB Mathematics Applications and Interpretation SL, etc) Hope this helped!

Hi! The student interviewed was a part of Hunter since elementary school so the high school entrance exam didn't apply to them the same way it does for high school applicants. I wish you the best of luck though, you got this!

Hi, based on the undergraduate website, it looks like Baruch is currently test optional (from fall 2023-spring 2025) enrollmentmanagement.baruch.cuny.edu/undergraduate-admissions/how-to-apply/ I believe Baruch's acceptance rate increased dramatically in this past school year. When I applied in 2021, the acceptance rate was 41% and now it's 51%. However, with this, comes even more competitiveness for picking pre-requisite and required courses to graduate so I would recommend looking into Macaulay or Baruch Honors as they get priority for class selection.

Hi, I was recently enrolled in Baruch college and am supposed to start the upcoming Monday. However, I'm having serious concerns about the career and academic support that is provided there. Could you please tell me about your experience?
@kentnyc615
@kentnyc615 Жыл бұрын
Hi! Congrats on enrolling into Baruch! Those are really great questions. For academic support, I know that we have the SACC (student academic consulting center) and our College Writing Center but to be honest I haven’t utilized them. I used the writing center once in freshman year but that was it. If I’m confused about classes, I tend to ask my professor if I can schedule individual office hours with them. To this day, my favorite teacher at Baruch was my physics teacher because I basically never understood the material and almost every single week would schedule office hours to get help with homework or preparing for exams. For academic support in terms of discussing what you want to major in and what classes you need, there are academic advisors. However, it’s not like high school guidance counselors where you are assigned a specific one. You have to download an app called Navigate and schedule a meeting with an academic adviser to discuss any academic concerns. But, you have been warned that usually during course selection, it’s almost impossible to schedule a meeting with an academic adviser as many people are trying to figure out if they have enough credits to graduate on time or if they took the right courses (pre-requisites and major requirements) for their major. In my experience, any business (Zicklin School of Business-think accounting majors, finance majors, computer information systems, full list of business majors here: zicklin.baruch.cuny.edu/academic-programs/undergraduate/majors/) prerequisites and requirements are extremely competitive to get as a lot of students need them in order to be considered to be admitted to the business school. I am a political science and economics double major and in my experience, I have really enjoyed and liked my political science classes and professors but for economics, which I can only do a Bachelor of Arts in, I have the same pre req class requirements as business school majors and haven’t enjoyed those classes as much-especially my accounting 2101 professor. For career support, I find this to be a really interesting question because almost all of the students I met at Baruch are working part time, but I don’t think they got their jobs through Baruch. For me personally, I work part time during all of the time I’ve been at Baruch and through the summer, but I never utilized or really knew of any resources that Baruch had to offer. I think our main resource is STARR (the STARR Career Development Center) and I realized that I should have signed up on their website with my Baruch logins a long time ago because there is a job searching platform, similar to Indeed and kind of like LinkedIn as you can talk to some students who have previously worked at internships that you are looking to apply to. More of a tangent again with my experiences at Baruch, there are such a range of students at Baruch. For some, Baruch was their top choice/dream college. For others, Baruch was a safety and they are looking to transfer to another school and Baruch was the smartest financial decision. There are also students who know they want to go to grad school-either at Baruch or elsewhere and therefore, are at Baruch because it financailly makes sense. I know students who have transferred to Baruch, who have transferred out of Baruch, who take gap semesters or gap years to travel or work. However, even if you are looking to transfer, I would advise you to utilize as many of Baruch’s resources as possible/don’t have the mindset (like I did) that you would only be here for a year. For example, join a club! I feel like that is a main source of student life here, especially since we are a commuter school. Also, if you are a transfer student to Baruch, there is also a transfer student services center at Baruch. As I wrote before, a lot of students have jobs while at Baruch so honestly school is not their first priority (Like the whole thought of “C’s get degrees”) I know students who also are at Baruch part time, work full-time, and are just looking to graduate at this point. However, I have also seen people who seem to be on the wealthier side-based on how they dress. (And I'm sure this is similar to a lot of other schools/maybe not news) I recently stumbled upon this drive.google.com/file/d/1GJ8xTDvOV_lKhwME-fSc6ssZbJ9_YeiZ/view that I’m honestly finding really helpful, even though this is technically my last year at Baruch. I realized that I learned a lot of this stuff from Freshman Year Seminar, a 0 credit course that everyone except transfer students have to take and pass in order to graduate. But anyways, that link is a helpful guide created by the undergraduate student government at Baruch. Hopefully, this answered your questions! Feel free to ask me any other questions you may have about Baruch :)

Hello! Sorry for the late response. Just for some context, I am not in the business school which finance is under. I am under Weissman’s School of Arts and Sciences but I can speak about some of the business prerequisites which overlap with my intended major of economics. Majoring in economics requires a lot of Baruch's business school requirements. This link shows all the prerequisite courses one has to take before getting accepted into Baruch’s business school for both regular entry, early entry, and direct admission: zicklin.baruch.cuny.edu/academic-programs/undergraduate/ug-eligibility-admission-criteria/ ACC 2101 Principles of Accounting CIS 2200 Introduction to Information Systems and Technologies ECO 1001 Microeconomics ECO 1002 Macroeconomics ENG 2100 Writing I LAW 1101 Fundamentals of Business Law Pre-calculus (or Calculus or placement into Calculus) STA 2000 Business Statistics I COM 2020 Introduction to business communication Of these courses, I finished Writing 1, Fundamentals of Business Law, Introduction to Business Communication as well as Calculus 1. To speak a little bit about my experience with these courses, I have found that although they are supposed to be introductory courses, I have found them more difficult then my other introductory courses. However, I feel that I got really lucky with all the professors for those courses as I set up multiple meetings with my calculus professor who was extremely busy teaching a lot of other courses and tutoring students who needed assistance with precalculus to answer any questions I had from the homework or for our exams. What I also found for these courses is that exams make up the majority of one’s grade ie. 90% of my grade was based on exams for calculus. This semester, I am currently taking principles of accounting, business statistics, and macroeconomics. While taking introductory accounting, I have found that accounting is not for me, (maybe because of how my professor teaches). Business statistics and macroeconomics are definitely challenging but so far, I’m doing ok with them. This is Baruch’s suggested pathway for a finance major. enrollmentmanagement.baruch.cuny.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/18/2020/10/3-Semester-Plan-Finance-BBA.pdf As you can see, there are a lot of required courses you have to take and what I have found with Baruch’s course selection as that required courses for the Business school are very competitive so more likely than not, you might not get the best professors. I asked someone who graduated a couple of years ago from Baruch as a finance major how that experience was and they told me, they honestly would not recommend it and that there was a lot of self studying. Hopefully this answered your question!

Good question! I have definitely found my second year at Baruch a lot more academically stressful because of the courses I am taking which are more of Zicklin (Baruch's Business School) pre-requisites then my major's school's requirements which is the Weismann School of Arts and Sciences. I found that because there are so many mandatory prerequisites for Baruch's business schools, it is very competitive to get a (subjectively) good professor for those subjects during course selection. What are you interested in majoring in at Baruch?

Yes of course! Hmm I would say that it's definitely a very different experience socially when compared to non commuter schools were students dorm on campus. During my first year, I found that I definitely had to reach out to students in order to make friends. I am honestly not a very social person so right now, as a second year student, since I am not reaching out and starting conversations with other classmates, I definitely find it harder to make friends. Hopefully that helps!

@kentnyc615
@kentnyc615 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! When I applied to Baruch, I chose not to submit my SAT score but based on this: www.niche.com/colleges/cuny-baruch-college/admissions/ a good SAT score would most likely be 1300s and higher. Sorry, I'm not too familiar with the college application process for international students but based on this CUNY website page: www.cuny.edu/financial-aid/student-eligibility/international-students/#:~:text=There%20is%20limited%20financial%20aid,US%20citizens%20and%20permanent%20residences. "There is limited financial aid for foreign nationals to study in the US, with the possible exception of citizens of Canada and Mexico" and "Colleges and universities provide funding through scholarships, grants, and fellowships, although these are limited and most are for graduate-level students."

Take as many practice SHSAT exams as possible and figure out which areas you are struggling more with, whether it be a specific topic in math or a specific type of ELA question or passage. Make sure to also allocate your time well and bubble in the correct questions on the answer sheet. Best of luck!

Great decision! Sometimes the colleges with the biggest name isn't always the right choice. If you really love USC U can totally transfer knowing you already got in from high school! Keep up your grades and work on something you're passionate about and you'll def have a chance at going to USC! If you don't decide to that's fine as well, what you do after high school isn't so much what college you go to but what type of person you are, if you're a hardworking person, that'll translate over to whatever college you go too! Congrats again!
