Good morning Rick! May I ask, do you seal your charcoal drawing first before applying paint?
@RickStevensstudio5 ай бұрын
I usually do, unless the charcoal is light or I'm willing to allow a little muddy mixing w/paint

@@stangss1 So I check out your work. I can see you have a very different style. Like the jazz. Are you familiar with Oliver Nelson,? Jazz Sax from Colrane's time.

I love your paintings😀... Thank you for sharing this video showing how you work. Your paintings look like tapestries to me mainly those with little squares, in a more abstract way... They open the door to enchanted dreams...

I absolutely love your style of painting. Your treatment of light on leaves and trees is magical. I aspire to see like this when painting nature. Thanks for a peek at your process.

Much too fast! How will we be able to learn to paint when the camera flips with such speed??
@RickStevensstudio3 жыл бұрын
Hi James, thanks for your comment. This time lapse was made for posting on social media. Shorter, fast moving videos seem to be more appropriate there. It was not intended as an instructional video which is more common on youtube.

I know you have been at this a long time Rick, but I literally discovered your work this morning. As much as I love the finished works, I think I'm even more intrigued by your process. I think too many people currently get too hung up on thinking that if a painting isn't done plein air, that it's not valid somehow. Your work clearly shows how inaccurate that idea is. In one video, you have just validated what my regular work process is. Our processes are very similar. Thank you.
@theeaselrider40323 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the insights. It's refreshing to find an artist who is doing their own thing, and really making it work. I understand what you are saying about being outdoors. Many times I've headed out to paint, or at least sketch for work later, but instead I find myself just sitting, absorbing what's around me. Which is still a viable method of taking in information, just maybe not as productive. I love that easel, except it would take up my entire studio.
