You should give Emily Henry's "Funny Story" a try since the main character is a librarian who also hosts her own readapolooza! I know she isn't your favorite author, but you may connect better with it than "People We Meet On Vacation" and "Happy Place"

Brandon Sanderson has some more comedy writing in the Alcatraz series. The book Yumi and the Nightmare Painter has the same narrator

I agree that Emily Henry is more realistic fiction than romance. Beach Read was my favorite, but after reading her other books I think she isn't a reliable author for me. Really enjoyed your video!

How come the books are already catalogued and with the stickers? :)
@manuscriptsmusickandmore790113 күн бұрын
Good question! I pay a little extra every year for the processing. Junior Library Guild puts on the spine labels, barcodes, and covers! It saves me lots of time since I do all other processing by myself. (Well, technically my student aides do it - haha!)

We read this for my Book Club and members gave it a range from a 2.5 to a 6 out of ten rating. We all really liked the idea and many elements of the book, but felt like the ending was just way too rushed and not well executed.
@manuscriptsmusickandmore790113 күн бұрын
Totally agree about the ending! The last little bit was my favorite part because it turned into more of a high stakes thriller. I wish that had been more of the book! Or else not there at all because it did seem rushed.

I noticed a couple of the JLG fantasy books were ones I read and really didn't like. I'm glad you're going to be hand selecting that category yourself.
@manuscriptsmusickandmore790113 күн бұрын
Yeah, it seems that fantasy is one of their weakest categories. And honestly, fantasy circulation numbers have gone down a lot the past few years. It used to be our second most checked out genre after a realistic fiction, and now I don't even think it's in the top five!

Wow after having followed different careers (from teaching to being in the corporate world), and now at home with my daughter, I think if I ever have an opportunity to work again, I would love to be a librarian. I love books and just think it must be amazing to be in such an environment where you have some (but minimal) interaction with people, and so many books to keep you company. I assume you like your job? All the best.
@manuscriptsmusickandmore790113 күн бұрын
It's funny because I thought I would be working with books more than people too... it turns out that it's the exact opposite (at least for me in a school library). I would say 90% of my job is working with people and 10% with books!
@ilsevanlegos752929 күн бұрын
I've really enjoyed the fourth book, The Fall of Babel. Don't know why people are so negative about it. I thought it was a neat ending.
@manuscriptsmusickandmore790113 күн бұрын
I've been in the middle of it for months now... I really need to just sit down and finish it! I feel like those books take me forever to read though. They are very dense!
@ilsevanlegos752929 күн бұрын
I'm on page 200 and are struggling to find motivation to continue. I usually give a book until page 60 or 80 before deciding whether to continue. For this book , I continued because the world is interesting (I would like to live in a world where there is a mysterious door which leads to a mysterious place), however, it feels as if it is going nowhere....after 200 pages...

My first job was as a High School media assistant. It was fun and I feel that I did a good job. Should have tried to stay in this part of the library field. Public Libraries did not work for me because it was an inner city situation. Became a museum professional and a classroom teacher. You have a good attitude and it would have been good to work with you.

"As Good As Dead" is an incredible book! I have taught 6th grade for the past 6 years. This past year, several of my students read the series along with me. I assigned a reading project choice board and one of my students created a diorama of the crime scene in this book. It was so creative. However, I had not got to this part of the book yet. Definite spoiler alert! I agree that this book is 5 stars. I have stopped teaching because I am starting my first year as a school librarian in August!!! I love your channel and enjoy your videos!

Where did you buy the new books at for so cheap?
@manuscriptsmusickandmore7901Ай бұрын
I got them from the Junior Library Guild $5 backlist sale. They have pretty good sales like that throughout the year. I think you have to be a JLG subscriber to have access to them though. They aren't the newest books, but sometimes they are only several months old!
@cjpatterson2253Ай бұрын
Agree with your assessment. Thought the characters maintained their wisecrackiness for way too long, even when they were near death. Also <spoiler alert> I was pretty shocked how many of the main characters got killed.

@manuscriptsmusickandmore7901Ай бұрын
Yep! Christopher Rice. He now runs Anne's Facebook page and is planning a huge celebration of life in New Orleans! (It's been in the works for years now, so I'm hoping it eventually happens one day.)

I am interested in the most recent trilogy of books she published. In your opinion, we they as good as the other books in the series? I’ve heard mixed reviews but still definitely want to read them
@manuscriptsmusickandmore7901Ай бұрын
It's hard to say... I really loved book 3 of the new books (Blood Communion), but I didn't care for Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis. Prince Lestat was somewhere in the middle for me. I still recommend reading them though! It was also a different scenario for me. I had to wait so many years to get Prince Lestat that it made so exciting to have a new book out! Without that hype now, I'm not sure I would have loved it as much.
@dreamofyou8906Ай бұрын
Interesting! Was it the plot, writing quality, pacing, etc that made you like the new books less? I heard some interesting choices were made with the plot 😅

The Armand slander 💀 i haven’t read all the books, so possibly I’m missing some parts of Armand’s story- but I personally LOVE him! He’s not as compelling as some of the other characters, but I find him one of the most interesting aesthetics-wise and history-wise
