This worked! Thank you! Another tip, if you have it assigned to someone specific you can do that by selecting "Assign to contact" and then it gives you the option to select ring or text tone.

I’m on 17.1.1 and it’s still broken. On call for work and this update got me in trouble at work. I can’t set an annoying text tone to wake me up. Thanks apple! Sammy would never have done this to me.

if you follow the instructions EXACTLY TO THE LETTER it should work for you. FWIW I am on iOS 17.0.3, your mileage may vary. PenguinTalk, THANK YOU so very very much for restoring my sanity. Even though we should not have to go to such drastic steps to personalize this specific tone, I'm willing to do it. I want my incoming text (notification) sound to be MINE & MINE alone so I can distinguish from EVERYONE else who uses the same two or three different tones. I thought the whole Apple/Mac/iPhone ecosytem was based on expressing ones own individuality? What happened, Apple??

This works perfectly and although everyone would prefer a simple menu selection, this works 100% for assigning custom text tones. Not sure why so many negative comments when it’s a very straightforward tutorial and it also solves the problem. Thanks!

It won’t be available. It will be just there invisibly. U won’t see it under any list but it’s there. That’s why at the end I said to test it by sending yourself a simple text msg.

Neither did 17.0.3, have contacted Apple twice about this issue, but seems they are more interested in sorting other issues to encourage their customers to upgrade to the IPhone 15.... All money, money greedy for money... 😡

@@zipper121 Yeah. I try 3 times on my iPad Air 4. New ringtone shows up only in main Ringtone section, and not in Message's one.. I have ipad OS 17.01

@@motiondesignstudio429 I must admit I never tried on iPad. On iPhone this trick is working like a charm. The only downside is, every time you would want to change notification tone you must run the whole process.

@@zipper121 OK. On iPhone this tut works but not in 100% correctly. You can set ringtone for messages but this ring tone do not shows up on the list. If you choose diffrent ringtone even to listen up - there is no way to go back to our ringtone. Then we have to export ringtone once again and set it for messages

Brother you did a whole bunch of unnecessary talking instead of getting straight to the subject at hand. Most of the time when ppl type this kind of question in their in the act of needing to know bc their editing. So to come to your video and your rambling instead of getting to the point is irritating!
