!!! IMPORTANT- regarding putting a water heater in your birdbath during winter- only do this if you can put mesh wire or something right over your birdbath, so that the birds can ONLY DRINK from it, by getting only their beaks into the water, and cannot wash in it. Many birds die from dipping their bodies into warm inviting water in the middle of winter,- and the water then FREEZES ON the birds- dropping their temperature, disabling their wings-which equals death

Grow your plants in large containers to control them. Also some plants can be grown inside in containers. Yes mint spreads but you can cut and use inside. Here in North East Gadsden Alabama the freeze kills anything not brought inside.

Did you dig out the roots rather than pulling it out with your hands.
@Gardeningknowhow2 күн бұрын
Yes, pulling the plants was done solely for the video. I have repeatedly dug up the root system of the chameleon plant, and after years of effort, I am finally starting to see it diminish little by little.

Don't plant Asian Jasmin. You will never be rid of it. It comes back time and time again after you think you have gotten it all up.

Last spring, I ordered bare root raspberry plants from Home Depot. After they grew, I realized they were actually wine berry plants. These plants are invasive. I'm surprised, they are sold in the U.S..

I have tried for several decades to even get a butterfly bush to grow! I've bought many. They die off! One finally came back a tiny little thing last year and the deer ate it to the ground. Somebody please give me one that will stay alive!
@Gardeningknowhow9 күн бұрын
I wish I had better advice, but I’m in the same situation. I haven’t been able to keep a butterfly bush alive for more than 1-2 years in my climate. However, this plant can be invasive in other regions.

The place where I grew up had Lily of the Valley under a giant hickory tree it never spread any larger. It was in my horse pasture. None ate it. I grew up, moved away and later my parents sold the place. I went back years later and the tree was gone, the smaller hickory near it is now large and there was no sign of the Lily. I haven't seen ANY in all those many decades, anywhere! In fact, I was hoping to get some to plant here at my last home.

I wanted to share this. I needed labels for my trays. I got a window blind. I cut the single pantels in half. The cut my labels. Cheap and easy. One blind makes a gallow bag of labels. . I also use a older microwave to sterize my soil. 25 minutes. Works great. Happy gardening... Great job I love the way you plant your seedling....

Incredible video, Gardening Know How. Looking forward to seeing your next upload from you. I smashed the thumbs up button on your content. Keep up the fantastic work! Your tips on growing indoor vegetables are so useful. Have you explored any specific varieties that are particularly well-suited for small spaces or low-light conditions?
@getbadlybehaved367912 күн бұрын
Thank you, glad you enjoyed. You can use most varieties of the edibles mentioned, it doesn't have to be specific which gives you more room to play and work with seed packets you might have lying around already. So it is money saving as well.

How do you get the plants to go through the cork
@Gardeningknowhow9 күн бұрын
The plant shown at 0:10 is sitting in between two cork pieces that fit tightly together in the container with a hole in the middle for the crown and root system. Since making this video, this plant has since outgrown that space.

What about when it's not a vine yet but has 15 or so leaves? I'd like to take cuttings and repot. Can I do with just water too?
@Gardeningknowhow14 күн бұрын
Yes, you certainly can root the cuttings in water as well. With a stem that length, you may be able to take several cuttings.

That is not suggested. Prayer plants actually thrive in pots that are just larger than their root ball.

While currently not tagged as sterile, the Pugster Blue Buddleia has shown no signs of being invasive. In our area of Texas (zone 8b), we have not observed any spreading in local gardens nor the wild areas. Hopefully, breeders keep heading in that direction as the native butterflies here absolutely love Pugster Blue.

We could all add to this I’m sure as the video said some are problems in certain areas. There are invasive and aggressive plants-two different things. Plants in my sandy dry area Z5a that are difficult to control: purple morning glories, spiderwort, vinca, yellow stonecrop called steppables at one time, woodland anemone, narrow leaf evening primrose, plantain hosta, garlic chives, and oregano. Neighbors black walnut trees and recently my catalpa tree. I love the catalpa and my parents had one, but it never reseeded 😮. And there are poplars here and noticed they pop up everywhere and a picky wineberry thing. It’s incredible how some are relentless-I scrape and dig and they still return. The anemones get tangled into other flower roots, steppables I think I’m winning but there they are again, I never let morning glories seed out and it’s been at least a decade, the hostas are leaping into the lawn and one snippet they take off same as most. And the biggest surprise is the primrose as they didn’t act up until about the tenth year-Yikes they are cruising! They are beautiful but the bloom isn’t long. So keep an eye on plants because one year they may decide to take over 😂. Edit: after reading comments I thought of another factor of why a plant may all of a sudden take off-weather. We have had really unusual warm winters and that is when I noticed those short primrose take off. It also could be that the soil improved.

Thank you for your response and for sharing your expertise. While black walnuts weren't featured in this video, they are certainly one of my personal problem plants!

I took some clippings from several different coleus. I put them in water in a west window not expecting much. To my surpise they are all thriving and now have blossoms all over. I think that they are seeds but I'm not sure. Anyway, they took very easily. Now, I have several thriving different varities and am trying to find homes for them. I truly did not expect them to do so well. Thanks for this video. It sparked some ideas. I seem to have better luck with plants in water then dirt.
