Did You Know?: The Leviathan is actually 3D CGI generated (as is the Ulysses [the Sub] and the Sub Pods) Something is wrong with a lot of modern CGI that the Leviathan here looks and moves like a hand-drawn entity with so much fluidity.

As others have pointed out, the Leviathan actually did it's job and saved the city. If not for the casualties it inflicted, Rourke would have had no troubles taking the city by force.

We dont know if everyone on the sub was in on the plan. Its very possible that the majority of the crew were volunteers from the US army that were just piloting the sub. Or even if they did come along, at least some of them wouldn't of been okay with Rourke taking the crystal knowing it'll kill Atlantis.

Never mind her complete apathy to a leviathan attack, how is Packard able to have a phone conversation with her friend (presumably on land) while at the bottom of the ocean in 1914?

Has to be one of if not *the* most visually impressive and well-executed fight scenes in the extremely rich and long lived history of 2D animation. The staging, lighting, action, all the tech used and the animation in general is unbelievably well done, not to mention how triumphant and epic the music is! It's three and a half minutes of non-stop fast-paced action in spectacularly grand and terrifying environments. The concept is kickass as well. A giant old timey yet almost futuristic steam-powered submarine kilometres under an ocean, ambushed by an ancient, gigantic mechanical leviathan that not only is an absolutely awe-inspiring and horrific idea for a monster encounter, it also manages to completely hand their asses to the protagonists, which is extremely rare in movies in general, let alone cartoons aimed at a younger audience. Damn what an undeniably ambitious project this movie would have been, too bad it bombed in the box office... What a shame, why can't we get good things to be more popular...

When I get to the scene where the Leviathan looks into the front of the sub, I like to think that it was taking a minute to figure out how this "tiny boat" got this deep with out being attacked by it. Since the majority of the vessels it sunk were surface traveling ships. This is a new experience for it.

Wouldn't surprise me if he was a former US army commander. And given his age, and that this is 1914, he most likely was a young man in the Civil War. Which as everyone knows was the bloodiest conflict on US soil with almost 1 million dead by the time it was over. He probably saw some gnarly stuff in the war and it helped him become an effective commander.

As a kid you didn't bother much about how many lives were lost in this scene, especially the scary moment Audrey Ramirez locked the door while 3 men running for their life and 2 made it out. Subpods getting attacked in the final part and you hear those guys scream till they crash and died. Looking back as an adult, you come to think that Disney will never make movies like this in modern time. Atlantis was a darn good movie.

Despite being ancient, the Leviathan is more like a living thing than a machine. And assuming the Ulysses is the most advanced craft money can buy at the time, you'd think the Expedition team would stand a chance. Hell no. The energy given by the crystal is so powerful and advanced that the Leviathan renders all opponents utterly powerless. Even the genius mechanical engineering of the submarine were nothing compared to the mobility of the Leviathan. Even with the support of the sub pods and the usage of explosive arms, the Ulysses still sunk. I can't help, but wonder how many submarines it'd take to defeat one Leviathan.
@duneydan7993 Жыл бұрын
Screw the Atlant's crystal, if they wanted to be rich easier they just had to sell the Ulysses to the best buyer! - It can dive deeper than any 1920's submarine and stay submerged for weeks. - It can transport an entire expedition force that's fully mechanised + months of logistics supplies. - It has enough firepower to sink an entire enemy fleet. - it can be deployed from a moonpool inside a dedicated ship. Go sell that to the Kaiser instead of some glowy magic crystals!
@ArmedSpaghet Жыл бұрын
Infinite energy is still better lol
@duneydan7993 Жыл бұрын
@@ArmedSpaghetYes and no. The Ulysses is something "real", easy to understand the pros and cons of buying it. The Atlant crystal produces energy yes but can it be useful? What type of energy? How will the crystal react about not being in atlantis anymore? As a potential buyer, you have no garanty of it'll still be working or even if that energy it produces can be used for anything! In short it's between buying a superweapon that is real and a magical rock you know nothing about.

A minute later... Rourke: "Seven hours ago, we started this expedition with 200 of the finest men and women I'd ever known...we're all that's left." Meaning that at least 100 people were killed during the Leviathan attack, whether in an escape pod, sub-pod, or the ship itself. Jesus, this movie has one of, if not the, highest kill count in Disney's history!

Man, some things I must say, they showed the seriousness and severity of all of this, people getting left behind while closing doors to retain water, the amount of crafts dying or crashing due to the travel, and the sheer amount of panic, Disney didn’t hold their punches for this ride and it makes me wanna have a ride based on it where we are jerked around a lot while it goes really fast

Someone else pointed this out, it doesn't full out attack until after they strike. This could mean a couple of things. 1. That it's not inherently aggressive, and only reacts to aggressive behavior. Or 2. It thinks that the sub is from Atlantis/similar culture, and is there to help the city.

1 evac boat had enough equipment for a massive convoy, cranes, an all in one Tunnel digging tank and truck mounted launchers for mini planes and lifter balloons. 4 evac boats launched, but it's likely the whole thing was much more significantly filled with hardware and crewmen... that was enough stuff to CONQUER Iceland.

This scene, along with the opening of the film, always me wonder one thing: with the sheer size and power of the Leviathan alone, and with how technologically advanced the Atlanteans were(are again), what kind of forces were they fighting at that time that would warrant the use of these gargantuan mechs and their equivalent of a tactical nuclear strike?
