Thank you. My greatest disappointment of the last year was that I couldn't equalize when freediving head down. I have more than 25 years of scuba-diving experience. with more than 1000 dives, 15 years as a commercial diver, I love snorkeling. I equalize without even making effort and without using my hand when scuba-diving. However, when I took an advanced free diving class it turned out I couldn't do Frenzel because my soft palate doesn't work as needed and I couldn't dive more than 10 m especially when head down without my ears hurting. I am gradually getting there I believe, and I think your video is helping more than other materials even though I have read a lot of instructions and watched a lot of videos. The problem is that the more complicated explanation is, the harder to follow it. Your instructions are the simplest.

Can the wrong position of the tongue during diving create problems in the sinuses of the head? I very often experience "blockage" (pain) above the eyes and I suspect that I am not doing a correct frenzel technique, because I do not have a pathological problem. Thank you for the video!
@freedivingcentral4 ай бұрын
Hi George, great question. The sinuses are air-filled sacks within our faces. The sinuses equalise all by themselves. The tongue can affect the sinuses. If you are feeling pain it, is from congestion, allergies, breathing lots of dust or in some cases sinusitis. A few things you could look at to reduce congestion or blockages would be diet including alcohol, excess sugar, allergies, workplaces (dust) and airconditioning. Air conditioning is dry air and can create blockages. Some treatments could be sinus rinse with warm water, nettie pot, steroid spay (this will work over a longer period of time or decongestants. If you use decongestants make sure you follow the instructions and don't overdo it as this can have a negative effect commonly known as the rebound effect. I hope this helps and get you on the right track! Hopefully, we see you in the water soon! Cheers, Dan

Thanks for the reply! What happens if the equalization does not work in one ear, when the head is in the lowest position? Obviously the soft palate is in the right place since it equalizes one ear.. What is the solution?

I just started my freediving journey so my personal best is 3.8m deep. I am going to a pool that is 4.5m deep hopefully I can do it. Thanks again your the best🎉

Constant No fins also known as - CNF 👇 This is the purest form of freediving and can also give you huge sence of achevment. CNF is done without the use of fins and or the use of pulling the dive line. You can only move up and down the line by using the propulsion of your hands and feet to drive you. Its very much like breastroke, but the timing is diffrent and changes throughout the dive. Its all abput being streamline and efficant. When we are bring our hands back to the front this is when we kick, the is to counteract any drag that we could have created while bringing tha hands up. It essentailly allows you to keep your forward moementum. Imagine that you are inside the tube again this will help with keeping you efficaint in every stroke 😉 In our experience teaching no fins, you should always start with depths that are super achievable and fun. Once the depth becomes easy its time to implement our favourite saying - Progressive Playfull Exposure. Progressivly and playfully expose your body and mind to deeper and more challenging depths. CNF needs to be respected, as shallower depts that that easily reached using CWTB or FIM dives (if you dont know what these are check out our last 2 posts) are not so easily attainable as alot more strenght and energy are required you will also experience higher levels of C02 in a shorter period of time. We filmed all three posts CWTB, FIM and CNF as shollower dives so that they are more relatable. Rather than posting a dive to 100m as it woudnt be relatable to anyone 😆 This dive is to 25m you will notice the following: Safety note: Do not place the velcro of the lanyard onto your quick release belt. If a worse case senario were to happen, you would be rellying on a quick release belt to stop you from sinking or detaching at depth. Either attach the lanyard for the way it is degined or purchace a specific CNF Lanyard. In any workplace complceny is the biggest killer. 1. there is no rush 2. The duckdive is a pivot from the hips. Once the feet are in the air this will give you moementum to get under water. 3. Remeber to equalise between strokes. Or this would be a great opportunity to implement a nose clip. 4. As you are breaking the positive buoyance you will need to stroke at a higher rate. 5. Slow the strokes down as you break through the buoyancy levels 6. Enjoy the freefall, conserve energy and rest as once you turn the work begins 😉 7. A strong bottom tun to give you momentum 8. The deeper you are the more negative buoyance you will need to fight. Stroke at a higher rate, storke with strength and efficancy. 9. Keep a level head. Positive thoughts only. 10. As you break throught the levels of negative buoyancy slow the strokes down. 11. As you break the surface always come up on the buoy and put your hand over it so you can recover. 12. Recovery breaths 13. High fives

One of the main things to remember is that with all things in freediving , there is no rush. Take your time and have fun!! As Dan starts the dive you will notice that he takes his time in getting in position for the duck dive. He does a soft kick on the surface to give himself momentum, drops his arms down, and brings his legs up and off as he goes. The arm stroke, in the beginning, is crucial as it helps with momentum and assists in helping break the positive buoyancy. As your arms make it to your side its then time to start finning, doing this at the right time is important as you want to maintin that same speed from your duckdive and take it into your dive. After you have positioned yourself on the dive line its time for a body scan and to make sure your body is a straight, chin tucked in, shoulders, chest and stomach relaxed. As you break the positive buoyancy and start to become negatively buoyant its time to switch off, relax and enjoy the free ride down. Its nice to start your free fall a bit deeper so there is no loss of speed while transitioning. Once you are ready to turn around grab the line with your thumb pointing up and it should turn you around nicely. Give the line a nice strong pull and then the work begins 💪 nice stong kicks but not panicked. As you gain some momentum and your buoyancy changes, its time to bring your arms up like an arrow. Then once you are in the last 10-15 meters of the dive, its time for one last arm stroke and for the positive buoyancy to bring you back to the surface. The most important thing is recovery breaths. Dont forget them 😉 During the dive it's important to: 1. Dont rush and be efficient. 2. Positive thoughts only. 3. Equalise often. 4. Adjust your speed and power as you break through the different levels of buoyancy. 5. Start your freefall when you are maintining the same speed as you were while finning. 6. Maintain a relaxed body position. 7. Keep you chin tucked in and shoulders relaxed to protect your trachea and lungs. 8. Nice strong bottom turn for momentum. 9. No matter the depth or duration always do recovery breaths. 10. Repeat a depth 4 times before going deeper. 11. Always dive with a buddy You may have noticed Dan doesn't touch his nose during this dive. This style of equalisation is called hands free equalisation also known as VTO (voluntary tube opening) its essentially the holy grail of freediving and Dan has it 😂.

Hey that's great! A few days ago I went freediving with some whale sharks at Panaon island, Philippines. The sharks went pretty deep and were a bit too fast for me (even though they seemed to be swimming as slowly as possible). I managed to freedive down to about 20 metres and swim quickly alongside one of them for a while. It was incredible! But I often have problem with diaphramatic equalization, so thanks for your video! Frenzel seems so much easier and more effective.
@georgetsamantakis14239 ай бұрын
Thanks for video!!😊 Is there a possibility that the frontal sinus is not equalized due to a wrong Frenzel technique? because for two years that I've been spearfishing I've had a problem with my left frontal sinus (it hurts at a depth of 5-8 meters), even though my ears are equalizing. Usually the problem appears after a few dives, in the middle of the day. Do you have anything to suggest, because I'm desperate?😢
