Please tune if you are going post these instruments and expect people to take them seriously.
@MartinWoad8 жыл бұрын
He said it was for Halloween. It sounds perfect when it's not in-tune. It's really gloomy.
@RobinPratt8 жыл бұрын
OK whatever you say, but since it was written as a "gloomy" piece, I doubt if orchestras and concert pianists would perform it without tuning.
@MartinWoad8 жыл бұрын
I mean the original work of art wasn't gloomy, but making your instrument slightly off-tune can often produce this effect. I know the classical theory of music doesn't allow this, but no classical theory was ever perfect. Look at classical theory of physics for example. It is true... but only to an extent.

Thank you for posting as it is , it still sounded great. Reminded me of my childhood going to the Carnival at the Kights of Columbus where there was a carousel with a Wurlitzer mounted to it and I enjoyed the music from the carousel more than I liked the rides .

I'm not too sure. I've only seen one other Wurlitzer with a similar feature and that's the 153 at Dorney Park, which has a light inside the swell box, but that light stays on all the time since that machine has no shutters. I have also recently found out that in addition to the bell light, Kennywood's 153 also has a second air-switch-operated light and that would be installed inside the swell box, and it turns on and off with the opening and closing of the shutters

I'm not sure. Kennywood's organ has had a light that turns on and off with the bell stop for as long as I can remember, but no other organ with lights that I've seen has this feature so I guess it was added.

When are you going to start your restoration? I found an amazing metal polish that will make those brass horns shine brighter than when the organ left North tonawanda!

It was their last day of operation, and isn't labor day usually slow for parks anyway? Besides, this was later in the day as well, just before they closed. We had a nice time though.

@Wurlitzer157 No, this was from a 2007 auction just outside of Pittsburgh. The previous owner had purchased it from Hathaway and Bowers in 1982, just after it had undergone a complete restoration. It was either located in Canada before restoration, or it was restored in Canada, because all of the rolls that came with the organ were stamped with 1982 customs stamps. I didn't receive any information about the organ prior to restoration, and have yet to locate a complete serial number.

Was this the band organ Tim Trager was selling a little while back?

Were these air switches installed by the Wurlitzer factory though, or are they a more contemporary modification? The concept was certainly around (certain orchestrions, including the Seeburg KT Special with it's red lights in the drum, have lights that go on and off with music), but was this done by Wurlitzer? Just wondering...
@whoisthisguy72413 жыл бұрын
@andrewjf82 I sent Jeff some links to special air switches to switch the lights on and off with the roll perforations. I suggested he put a couple lights behind the swell shutters that turn on when they open, and lights over each roll frame that alternate with the roll frames

Busy with the holidays. Par for the course. I'll look forward to seeing the new paint job. Do the lights on all Wurlitzers stay on, or are they sometimes connected to go on and off with one of the roll perforations (such as the swell shutters)?

On that roll, yes it's suprisingly brief. It's the fifth song on the roll, though, so it definitely isn't half-missing.

@Jeffers153 It was at the fall 2007 auction at Dargate Auction Gallery in Point Breeze (Pittsburgh) along with a Seeburg KT Special Orchestrion, and quite a few music boxes. It came with 40 or so rolls, most of which are originals. Several are in sad shape with missing songs and what not. It wasn't until this year when the 125 roll catalogue was published that I was ablt to identify several rolls.
