Thank you for this informative video. As a new grower, I am always exploring how I can grow the best plants possible. I have a question. I ordered and received 2000 mums in early June. They are all doing great but I realized I had forgotten to order my lavender/purple colors so I ordered about 450 more and just received them less than a week ago. I am afraid some of my early bloomers will not be sellable in time. Any advice on changing up the fertilization without compromising their growth/blooms? Thank you for providing such quality plants and service! AKA-RedBird Nursery in Oklahoma.

We are glad it was helpful! If you're trying to finish mums in less that 12 weeks, we recommend planting in a smaller pot or planting 3 mums per pot to achieve the full look. Unfortunately we don't have any fertilizer hacks to speed them up without hurting them.

Can I use both for my potted rose plant with 1 to 2 weeks interval.
@northcarolinafarms35926 ай бұрын
Typically, we advise people not to. If things don't go well, it won't be as clear which one is the problem. Also, in the summer heat, slow-release releases two or three times faster. People who do this successfully use a meter to tell them how many nutrients are in the soil. They might start with slow-release and end with water-soluble. But to do that well, you have to interpret the results of your TDS meter.

Side note about Impatiens / busy lizzies - I had 3 seeds germinate within 2 days and this has happened twice now, both times I put the seeds on compost within hours of their pods popping. I think they like to germinate straight away, my own seeds have been way faster and more viable than seeds bought new in packets (9/10 average viability). I now have my first 2 Impatiens Balsamina (Balsam) plants and they have started flowering, there is so much pollen and a feint aroma of roses, I'm wondering about crossing them with my Lizzies? Balsamina is beautiful btw, I'm only a novice and I grow indoors at home under cheap LED lights but my impatiens and tradescantia are thriving perfectly here. I'm looking for info on breeding now, many thanks for this video.

@northcarolinafarms3592 Жыл бұрын
Crosses between genera are rare, but can occur. This video is primarily for open pollination to create genetic diversity. In most cases it will be on plants that create mono-embryonic seeds. However, it all depends on the type of seed that the species makes. Creating seeds that are perfect copies of each other requires a much higher level of experience and genetics.

Which lavender will best grow in Kashmir
@northcarolinafarms3592 Жыл бұрын
The best way to determine what will grow well in your area is to look at your zone. It looks like Kashmir is somewhere betwen zone 9 and 10 - more likely 10. Most varieties would probably be ok in that area, but you would want to look at the growing information on whatever variety you are looking at to determine if it would do well in Zone 10. Other factors may impact growth such as soil composition, elevation, etc.

If you were to breed a cherry pepper and a ghost pepper you will a handful of random plants. It is unlikely they would all have identical gentics. (All the "baby" plants would not be genetic clones of each other.) Think about parents having children. The children can vary in their genetic presentation even though they have the same set of parents.

How long until the one inch plugs can be safely planted in the ground?
@northcarolinafarms3592 Жыл бұрын
It depends on how established they were when they arrive. If they are to be used in a landscape application, you will need to establish them in a 4 inch pot or an 1801 before planting outside. You can find more information about lavender care on our website. I am not sure which variety you have, but you can navigate to all of the varieties we carry through our herb page: ncfarmsinc.com/rooted-plugs/herb

You kinda touched on it with water soluble, however slow release is slow release due to the need of microbes, and bacteria to break it down. This is fine for gardens, and what not, however for potted plants they generally don't have enough soil life of effectively break down slow release in a timely manner. In situations like this water soluble is a better solution, it does not require soil life to break it down and convert it to a form for the plant to absorb. Which is why it's fast acting even potted plants can readily absorb it quickly.

@northcarolinafarms3592 Жыл бұрын
Hi! The reason that our videos cover plugs is because we are a plug supplier. However, if you want to plant your own seeds, you can plant them at approximately 1/8th of an inch deep. They shouldn't be planted too deep, but you also do want a complete top cover of soil so it doesn't get blown off.

hmm excuse me~ why many said granular is better for oil palm? Can you give me the answer? Thank you
@northcarolinafarms3592 Жыл бұрын
We are assuming the palm is in a large pot. In that case, it can be more convenient to choose slow-release granular fertilzer in order to "set it and forget it." This also applies when you are working with any plants in homes or business spaces. In our greenhouse, we are dealing with smaller plants and smaller containers. We are also watering frequently and monitoring the plants frequently. We don't need our fertilizer to be on slow release, so it makes sense to use the water-soluble and be able to tweak what we are doing. Slow-release fertilizer leaches *into* the soil *slowly*, whereas water-soluble leaches *out of* the soil *quickly*.

Succulents get mealy bugs. I am tired of bringing them home for them to pop out. How do I kill them.
@northcarolinafarms35922 жыл бұрын
We've experienced that issue with Succulents as well. Finding a reliable supplier is the first step. That will decrease your issues with receiving infested plants. The most effective treatment for mealy bugs on succulents in our experience has been Orthene. Mealy bugs are difficult to get rid of though, especially when they've made themselves at home in the compact leaves of succulents, so it will take a few sprays. You can also try different horticultural oils and insecticidal soaps.

If you are asking if companies that produce oil buy from farmers, you would need to call the companies themselves to see if they have their own fields or if they buy in. If you are asking if North Carolina Farms sells to farms that produce the oil, then yes, if an oil producer is growing their own lavendar, then we would still be able to sell to them because they are not the end-user of the lavendar product.
