I remember when one of our local stations did this, my grandfather lived with us at the time (may he rest in peace) me and him were watching tv when they came on and said it was the final sign off and i remember my grandfather crying. He was a WW2 vet so id never seem him cry, i asked him what was wrong, and he told me that he was born when there was no TV (1922) and now he has lived to see tv go from going off air every night to having full 24 hour tv amd that he has lived a long life to see it happen. Me and him would sit and watch hours of re runs of MASH, Hogan's Heroes, F Troop, The Rat Patrol, Gunsmoke, Lawman, Maverick and so many more. I really miss you grandpa, thanks for so many loving memories, ill see you again some day ❤😥

0:14 KABC did a basic walkthrough of what’s going on, and where you could find assistance before shutting off their signal. 1:33 WCIU actually had a really big party for their analog sign off. They did a brief history of the station, and a tour of the station’s offices and studios, before a final brief tour of the Transmitter room at Sears Tower, their attempt to sign off at exactly midnight, however, didn’t go as planned; WCIU jumped the gun by about 20 seconds. 2:02 Fox 5 WAGA brought back Paul Cram, one of their original transmitter workers from when the station started in 1949, to do the honors. He is joined by Neil Maiser, who elects to make a brief announcement, saying “WAGA-TV, Atlanta Georgia, Signing off.” Cram would live to see 100 in late 2009. I believe he passed away soon after. 3:57 KGO in The Bay Area aired a quick announcement for their last minute of analog broadcasting, similar to what KABC did earlier. Michael Finley had the honors of doing so. 5:05 WRGB takes the cake in terms of biggest Bummer. They just simply kept airing Letterman with no interruption until midnight when they cut the signal. A scroll was seen on the bottom of the screen up to the last minute of service. 6:14 now KTLA, they really went all out with their switch. They brought in Stan Chambers, a member of the original staff at KTLA, and he talked about the beginning of KTLA, and television in the LA area in general, as pictures of KTLA’s past were shown. When Chambers throws the switch, okay it’s a lever, the signal stays on for about 5 seconds. 7:54 WGTE, by this time on the 17th, had already began airing the message that you saw on screen. It’s believed that WGTE started airing the pre-Termination message during the day, and cut at midnight.

0:26 That’s Bob Opsal doing the sign-off for WFTV. Opsal was the longtime anchor at channel 9 up until the 2010s. The cat is a callback to the station’s beginnings, as when the station first signed on 2/1/58, the call sign was WLOF-TV (We Love Orlando Florida) they used a cat for the logo, with the tail forming the #9. 1:39 unlike three of the other major Capital District stations (of the four that signed off on June 12th) WNYT elected to go just after last call, 2 AM (Last Call in Albany, in reality, is 3:00 AM) 2:21 WNYW/WWOR were the last two holdouts on June 12th in NYC. WCBS left around 2:00 PM, and WNBC, WABC, WPIX, WNET, and WLIW, along with The NJN stations, all went at 12:30 PM. WROC provided us the quote source for what was said to the Racing world on March 13th 2020. 4:22 Lyle the Intern is interviewed on Letterman, as WDEF elects to air a DTV update, which doubles as their sign off announcement. Joe Legge leads the brief look back on Chattanooga’s oldest Tv station. 4:55 Meanwhile WWNY simply flashes a warning graphic informing the audience that their tv is not ready for the switch. Also thank you Lyle the intern for providing the funniest last words on an analog station, and for those who didn’t upgrade, he knows where you live! (Sticks out tongue and flashes a peace sign, as the stations go off air) 7:05 WGN, okay first off I don’t know what the heck the people in the video from Eviskid90 were thinking, outside of the fact they wanted video and photos for historical reasons. Why they are cheering like crazy for the death of analog, I got no idea. Their blasting of airing Sex and The City as the last show to air on WGN Analog, while somewhat unnecessary, is something I agree with. Would’ve loved to see WGN air the SSB one last time, and it’s a bummer they didn’t do anything, as WGN-TV, while not the oldest In Chicagoland, is by far the most historic and famous of all of them. 8:19 I love how KYW brought back their old test card, (okay it’s a recreation yes but still, it’s based on the original) from when they were Philco’s W3XE. Meaning that KYW basically ended the analog era with what was one of the first images telecasted on channel 3. The CBS goodbye graphic adds to the shall we say somber but nostalgic mood.
