Thanks to the comments for the callback to her later. And also…I’ve been calling her Urkel when it’s obviously Ürgle!! I feel so stupid (and I have to change my fb name)

Great solo! He really hits those changes. And fluidly.

The key for this song is NOT for young voices at ALL, unfortunately!!

I'm going to have to re-record/post this one. Did not realize how out of tune the guitar was until trying it with my class 🥲

2016 Troopers were something else. This show and corps were drastically underrated that year. Finals material. It's a shame the judges didn't agree.

Lovely song, but some of the lyrics were incorrect. My favorite version is by Ray Charkes.
@BradenBarrentine11 ай бұрын
Yes for sure! I actually even show my classes Ray's interpretation before we work on this! I took some liberties to make this an "easy" version for some of the really little kids (the second verse is tough enough for some of them 😅). Thanks for watching!

*It should be "mountain majesties," but at least it means the same thing (plural, 'purple mountain majesties'). Lol this blew up over 4th of July weekend, thanks for the views! I teach music at a small charter school in Colorado Springs, CO. If you didn't know, Kathy Lee Bates wrote the poem while teaching for a Summer at Colorado College here in town (I haven't seen her around, but the year was 1893 after all). During her stay, she was offered a carriage ride to the top of Pikes Peak (the "purple mountain majesty" featured in the video). They actually had to ride "burros" (aka donkeys) the last six miles due to road conditions! Standing at 14, 115 feet (4, 302 meters), this long journey to the mountain's majestic summit left quite the impact on Kathy Lee Bates. The final shot of the video is our schools view of Pikes Peak. Not the most photogenic angle, but what we do get is a view of the "fruited plains" that the song speaks of, and the ocean-like prairie that she must have seen off to the East. It was super fun to make such a personal video about something I love for my students, and I'm glad that people are able to enjoy it online. Thanks for reading :)
