So I finally gave this product a go. It is definitely very hard to spread. Almost felt like I was trying to spread a thick peanut butter and you need to pay a lot of attention when Cleaning. But overall it seems worth the money. I wouldn’t mix more than maybe 8 m² with (300mmx600mm) tiles unless you are experienced. Ps. I didn’t use the Cleaning spray solution stuff. I just used clean buckets of tap water. And the following day went back in with some citrus cleaner just to double check.

Looks like Mapei has just aquired Wykamol here in the UK...mixed emotions - happy they will have the backing to continue expanding, and sad that another British firm has been taken over by a foreign company...nature of the beast nowadays

What do you think about the adhesion between the silicone and the tile when using this product? If in some place the silicone does not get into the seam at first, then it will no longer stick, right?

I'm from Germany using Mapei in Bali, Indonesia. It used to be very hard getting their products, 3-9 months to deliver. But it's getting better, there's no alternative for high end quality here.

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. This is a product sold by our American subsidiary and therefore unfortunately we are unable to make a recommendation one way or the other. The following link will take you to our contacts page with details for them. Many thanks. www.mapei.com/gb/en/contact-us/branch-offices-and-plants/?q=&continent=americas&page=2

Installing these plastic membranes is tricky and treacherous and harder than installing LFT porcelain tiles in my experience with UM 35. The instructions provided with the product are grossly insufficient and do not highlight complications. The main difficulty is they tell you to mix the thinset with the high braket value of water to give it a more runny consistency, then as you roll the membrane over the grooved thinset it tends to push the thinset and accumulate it like a solid ocean wave. Even if you roll the membrane without pressure when you roll or push a wood plate over the membrane it will easily push the thinset and create high spots. When working in small room like bathrooms in corners, pulling up the membrane to remove accumulated thinset is impossible as the thinset has a strong suction effect to the membrane and lifting it up will push more thinset deeper into the crevice compounding the problem. This is a treacherous product same with the orange brand. By comparison, setting the actual large format tile is a much easier task than this. And that is with reading all the instructions and having the exact notched trowel and margin trowel as per instructions.

I didn’t add glitter, but I used flexcolor on the mosaic hex tile I put down on my laundry room floor. I was nervous about it and watched a lot of videos before I started, but I followed the directions exactly and the grout went on without any problems. I used a timer and gave myself 5 minutes at a time to spread grout then cleaned that section off. I was prewarned to look for tiny bubbles between each section of grout that was completed and made sure those were filled. The one extra thing I did was after the second wash and a short drying time, I used a clean, damp microfiber scrap to buff the tiles lightly. The floor came out really nice and and the grout is still clean and bright after 8 months. I’m really happy with my floor, and am getting ready to grout a bathroom today with the same product. Yes its more complicated to apply than regular grout but so much better and I highly recommend it.

Awesome Video I recently visited your KZbin channel and enjoyed your content. However, I noticed that your videos are not ranking well due to some issues. I believe that if these issues are addressed, your videos will rank better. Here are the issues I found with your channel: 1. Video SEO has not been properly done. 2. Videos are not being released on time. 3. The video titles are not optimized. 4. Keyword research has not been done effectively. 5. Video thumbnails are not appealing enough to attract viewers. Solving these issues will help your KZbin channel perform better.

Many thanks for video-instruction and for all questions / answers. Now, I have to try myself......and report later. A fiew hours later, here I am again, to report. I had a little spot to try, how it will work. Easy, but: you have to move, not stand around dreaming. And I will recommend WARM water to brush off and for cleaning. Most important seems to me: respecting time-limits given by manufacture.

It's not clear from the video if waiting time for a pressure-sensitive install is included within your "open time", but it appears that it is. That only leaves 20-30 minutes to lay the material for a pressure sensitive install... if you drop everything else and closely watch it dry so you can start laying the moment it is ready. Is that really a reasonable amount of time?? Doesn't seem practical on a real-life job.

Good morning, our technical department think you are referring to an American product which we couldn’t comment on. www.mapei.com/us/en-us/products-and-solutions/products/detail/ultracolor-plus-fa From our point of view in the UK a movement joint should be filled with a silicone sealant eg Mapesil AC or LM. You could contact Mapei US though for their advice. www.mapei.com/gb/en/contact-us/branch-offices-and-plants/?q=&continent=americas&page=2 Many thanks.

This product is a disaster. Firstly, when I opened the bucket, the hardener canister was shoved down in the grout and my first job was to clean that b.s. It was nothing like this neatly packed bucket from the video. In case ones will believe I purchased an unlucky package, I had 2 the exact same way. It spreads nothing like the video either, very thick and sticky and.... darn near 100 bucks a gallon. I will not use this product again- very messy to clean up and highly stressful

I don't understand. I thoroughly mixed my epoxy grout and it was so thick that the rubber float wouldn't push it into the joints. I did leave the unopened bucket outside in the cold for a few weeks, so maybe I need to let it come to room temperature next time. I had the worst time applying this, but it may have been my own fault.
@winstonsteelscorp5960
@winstonsteelscorp5960 3 жыл бұрын
Did you have a very hard rubber float? If you had a soft rubber float that may have been the problem. Epoxy grout can be a beast to push. Also make sure you are mixing at slow speeds (300 rpm). If you mix at high speed (just about any drill at full speed is way too fast) you trap air and increase the reaction causing it to start locking up on you, or getting really thick. The air also shortens the pot life. Once mixed you have to spread it out into small piles as it is thermo reactive, if left all together it will get thick and harden up quickly. When you are pushing it into the joints it can trap air more than other types of grouts, so working from one end of the joint to the other to push the air out as you work it into the joint.

Good Morning Simeon, our Technical Services Team have said in any corners a sealant should be used, such as Mapesil AC for porcelain, ceramic etc, or Mapesil LM for Natural Stone, Marble etc. I hope this helps you out. Should you require anything further please do not hesitate to contact us. Thanks.

If you wanted to avoid sealant all together for the inside corners there are trim options like the DILEX BWA by Schluter that can be used. There are some metal trims that can serve this function too. Each project is different, but you definitely need a movement joint to prevent the possibility of cracking and other associated failures due to expansion and contraction of building and tile elements.
