I made this & my roomate's coworkers loved it and then requested one with raspberry swirled in, so I'm about to get that in the oven. I have a feeling it'll be super yummy❤ Your recipe was great, I used a bit less sugar as I don't have a huge sweet tooth, it was really really good, thanks😊

It would be wise to put your flour products in your freezer. We have a huge pantry that became infected with flour bugs. It really hurt that we had to throw away so much Our oats,pasta, coffee, cereal . Just to much to list it all. I found out after that if you store the flour in the freezer the bugs won't hatch. I never knew that flour had bugs in it.

the great value White Cheddar and Pepper macaroni is almost better than making it. and cheap... I also use orange juice almost every single time instead of buying pineapple and you cant tell at all. most people have orange juice on hand. I love this meal. ive even made low carb versions with keto chicken tenders and keto macaroni.

My problem is I don't really eat shelf stable food IRL so I can't "buy what I eat" And then I get discouraged and don't start prepping
@HenleehomesteadАй бұрын
I understand that. There are lots of other things you could stock up on like the ingredients to make food like baking supplies, seasonings, and grains. You could also stock up on household items, medical supplies and personal care products. Having those things on hand would help in an emergency or during difficult situations too 🙂

I can't stack box items like you have in your kitchen pantry because for the last two years, our end of town have been getting mice. I have everything in either heavy duty totes or heavy durty plastic containers. I do have mouse poison out where I can but I have to be careful because I have a house dog.

I sure wish that I could have even half of that room for my pantry. I live in a small apartment but I have been slowly making a pantry for myself. I keep trying to buy things that are on sale or in bulk. I do have my 21 cubic foot upright freezer and my 5.5 cubic foot freezer full. I have 2 large cabinets full of canned goods in my bedroom. I made a coat closet that's just inside my living room into a pantry with 2 large and deep shelves. I have lots of room under the bottom shelf for 2 large totes.

Love your channel! My husband and I are currently working on building a well-stocked food pantry for emergencies. Also working on a 72-hour kit for just in case scenarios. You should check out Ozio Medical- we just ordered their Basic Emergency Medical Kit for a great price, and it gives us some peace of mind in case we wouldn't have access to healthcare otherwise in an emergency situation or catastrophe!

I like to put all my spices in clear mason jars so I don’t have a bunch of little bottles of spices all over the place. I have one pull out cabinet with all different sizes of mason jars(bigger ones for spices we use lots of like chili powder and garlic) and that is my “spice cabinet”. So I don’t have such a mess all over

Boxes with baking mixes do not age well if they use baking powder as an ingredient. Like cornbread, cake, and pancake mixes. It degrades rather quickly. It is better to store cream of tarter and baking soda separately, then mix as needed when baking from scratch. The ratio is 1 to 2. Use 1 tsp of baking soda and 2 tsp of cream of tarter in a small container, then measue what you need for your recipe. The cream of tartar and baking soda have a decades long shelf life.

My freeze dried apples and blueberries did not stay crisp and dry in good Mylar bags with o2 absorber.
@Henleehomestead4 ай бұрын
I had that happen in the beginning too but it was because I thought the fruit was completely dry when I took it out of the machine but it wasn’t. It felt dry and even snapped but there was still moisture within the skin. I’ve just started doing like an extra 12 hours on each batch of something with a skin to be sure.

hi this is the same recipe/dessert for SOPAPILLA (in spanish). instead of just sugar on top, its sugar and cinnamon. and you use non-stick spray, the spanish use butter. but i found that the butter was too much liquid as it baked. i will be baking this but i may add fruit or fruit filling on top of the cheese filling. i do know this is delicious and easy and quick. good video

How long did the freeze drying take place for the fruit? How many hours? Do you change settings for what you are freezing such as candy verses meat or fruits? I'm watching video's and no one is changing the setting. Please provide the details if you will. Thank you. I'm new to this idea. I have my freeze dryer and still need to learn to use it
@Henleehomestead4 ай бұрын
Different fruit takes different time. Anything with seeds like strawberries will take much longer than something without. You always want to remove seeds from anything you can like citrus, watermelon, etc. I will use candy mode for candy but I do not change my settings other than that, I just let the machine do the figuring. When the machine finishes I check for dryness and if it’s not dry I will add more dry time. I always keep it set for an additional dry time of 12 hours just in case I can’t stop what I’m doing or I’m not home when it finishes. Hope that helps 🙂

Whilst I agree with the principle that you should buy what you eat, I still stock foods that we don't eat on a regular basis because of their value in a crisis situation. Dried beans and lentils, for example, are not a part of our normal diet, but I've got buckets of them stored anyway. (I have practised making meals out of them, and added many recipes to my personal cookbook, which I keep updated and in hard copy) They're relatively cheap, highly nutritious, and very versatile. I will still replace them as needed and use the old ones as chicken feed. Likewise, we eat very little white flour and sugar, but I've stocked up on both plus honey, maple syrup, and molasses so that I am ready to bake and preserve to add variety in tough times. I could go on, but I'm sure you get my point. Happy prepping friends.

Suggestion for all. In rotating your cans. If you had extended your shelving out into the center so one side is old stuff and new purchases can easily put in on the other side, instead of having to reach in back. I to put exp date on front label, but know it is so much easier if you also extend out your shelve in center of room with one short end will be against wall. Also look for bulging cans, as I remember one of my cans of pineapple burst and making a mess.

It's a max of 25 year shelf life (like if you happen to forget about it). But think of it this way: If you stock up some things for that will last that long and for some reason You Don't Have a Freeze Dryer anymore, it'll give you time to preserve the same foods another way.

Can freeze dry dried dog food to preserve it ? I just ordered a freeze drier and want to store food for my dogs in case of an emergency .
@Henleehomestead5 ай бұрын
Honestly I’m not sure but I wouldn’t think it would keep because dry dog food has a lot of oils in it and oils go rancid fairly quickly. I know oil is one of the things the freeze dryer can’t preserve. I make our dog food myself with chicken, rice, and vegetables and I freeze dry that.

I didn’t freeze dry any this year because we’re in the process of moving and the video you saw was from last so I can’t remember for sure but I do remember it was close to 2 full days for a batch. Anything with seeds or skin takes a long time.
