If you have another book for other states that would be helpful

Hello, thanks for watching! While these questions are from CA tests, most of the info applies to all states. We've had several comments from other state test takers who did well on their test using these videos. However, please be sure to read your states DMV handbook for the most accurate info - especially in regards to alcohol and drug rules. Often times, the legal alcohol limits vary state to state. Hope you find our videos helpful!

For question 12, isn't A and B the same thing? Unless it has to do with "may" and "must"
@DriversEdDirect2 күн бұрын
Hello! Great observation! A and B do seem similar, but there’s an important distinction. A states you must not squeeze past the bicyclist, meaning you need to ensure there’s enough space to pass safely. B, on the other hand, says you may not pass for any reason, which isn't accurate because you can pass a bicyclist as long as it's safe to do so. The main point here is that while passing is allowed, there needs to be enough room-you can’t squeeze past the cyclist. Thanks for bringing this up! If you have more questions, let me know!

As a cyclist, I don't agree with the advice to fold in your driver's side mirror when you park (you won't be able to see the cyclist approaching in the mirror, thus risking opening the door in front of the bike). 🤕
@DriversEdDirect5 күн бұрын
Hello! That's a great point! It would be a good idea to check for cyclists before exiting the vehicle, and if it’s safe to do so, to fold the mirror in once they’ve exited to help prevent accidents. Thanks for your input!

@DriversEdDirect5 күн бұрын
Hello! If you're referring to the “Licensing Needs” section, most people driving regular non-commercial vehicles, like cars or trucks, select “Basic Class C.” Even if you don't have a car yet, they're asking what type of license you're applying for and what type of vehicle you plan to drive. Let us know if that answers your question-thanks!

Hi I didn’t understand the question about the difference between a red arrow and red light
@DriversEdDirect5 күн бұрын
Hello! Thank you for your question! Solid Red light: You must stop. After you stop, you can turn right if it’s safe, and there’s no sign saying you can’t. Red arrow: You must stop, and you cannot turn at all. You have to wait until the arrow turns green. Think of the red arrow as a "hard stop" where no turning is allowed, no matter what! I hope that helps! Let me know if you have more questions.

Hey I tried completing an unprotected left during my test in LA. I entered the intersection but yielded to traffic. I could only complete my turn safely once the light turned red, and my tester immediately failed me. I’m wondering if it’s better to wait behind the line for testing purposes to avoid this scenario?
@DriversEdDirect5 күн бұрын
Hello! I saw you asked the question in another video but I'll put my response here so you don't miss it. Sorry to hear about that-it sounds like a tough spot to be in during your test. From what you described, it seems like you made the right move. If the light turns red and you're in the intersection, you’re required to complete your turn once it’s safe. If oncoming traffic is still coming (running the red), wait for them to clear, and then turn safely. Cross-traffic should wait for you to finish your turn before moving on their green. Just make sure it’s 100% safe before turning, but definitely complete the turn-you don't want to block the intersection or crosswalk. Without being there, it’s hard to know exactly what the examiner saw or took issue with. The DMV may fail you if they feel you waited too long or didn’t handle it safely. Best of luck on your next test, and hopefully, you won’t face another tricky situation!
@shipmaster19954 күн бұрын
@@DriversEdDirect Thanks for the reply! I've rebooked my test and hope that I don't face the same situation, but I generally feel rather confident with turns so hope it was just an unlucky day with a specific examiner.

Hi I took my DMV test in California and I was instantly failed when completing an unprotected left. I pulled into the intersection while the light was green and yielded to oncoming traffic. I was only safely able to complete my turn once the light had changed to red, but since I was in the intersection I needed to complete my turn so I didn't cause gridlock. I was always taught that this was correct, but I would like clarification if you could shed light?

Am I suppose to look over my left and right shoulder when backing up?
@DriversEdDirect5 күн бұрын
Hello! Great question! When reversing, you should look over both your left and right shoulders to check your blind spots, as mirrors don’t always capture everything. Primarily, focus over your right shoulder and look out the rear window to ensure a clear view of any obstacles, pedestrians, or vehicles behind you. After checking your blind spots, use your mirrors for a wider view. Always back up slowly to give yourself time to react and stay safe. Hope this helps!

The California drivers ed certificate you guys sent me the part where it says sign by parent or guardian can my mom and dad sign that part or can it be one?
@DriversEdDirect4 күн бұрын
Hello! In California, typically only one parent or guardian needs to sign the driver’s education certificate (form DL 400C). If both have already signed, that’s usually fine as long as it’s clear who the signers are. For the Driver's License Application (form DL 44), if there’s joint custody, both parents would need to sign. If you want to be extra sure, you could check with the DMV for their preference. Hope this helps, let us know if you have any other questions!
