And that's how you create a informative video. I'm not very good with adjectives but all I have to tell you is that, I enjoyed every second. Every thing in the video was perfect from music to the selected video clips. I'm quite envious. Will dare to ask you a question sometime, not today but under some other video.. You made my day, filled my head with many ideas.

The title should be "How Human Intelligence Evolved". There is so much learning from self, simulating, and learning from others also in invertebrates like octopodes and bees. For example, bumble bees can learn from others how to solve a puzzle. All these capabilities you talk about (except for true language, I guess) evolved multiple times across the tree of life. It's misleading to only focus on the human path and has the tint of human - and by extension race - exceptionalism.

It's a great video! However I would like to point out points that can be misleading in some ways. First, biological organisms are hugely modular in the sense that we can see the repetition of verry similar algorithms being used in unusual ways. Evolution does not look like a software development progression where new features arise in each updated version, therefore, we should be skeptical of claims of something like "learning new behavior within their lifetime" as a feature that seems to be completely novel. Take for example the difference between "trial and error" and other types of learning: The very proscess of building new sinapses involves a process of random search and then reinforcement of the "useful" path. Usually, such claims come with verry specific and restrictive definitions of "learning" and "behavior". Definitions that can, for example, restrict the proscess to a specific tissue or type o cells performing a specific task in a specific experimental design however the conclusions derived from this studies usually are very generalist. I'm afraid that we are verry far from knowing the reality of how knowing how smart animals really are.

I'd wonder how the next steps of intelligence fit into this, such as kohlberg's stages of development. Maybe the next level is an extension of simulation and involves understanding complex systems. 1st person -> 3rd person -> all people. But then there's also underrated emotional intelligence, which is a high level of intelligence of self.

Long time follower here, thanks for yet another fantastic and informative video! I saw this video when you released it and it blew me away to the extent that I asked my local library to purchase the book. I am barely 70 pages into it and hooked. The narrative is convincing and easy to follow along with, and I feel it has already given me a deeper understanding of what makes life tick on the inside. Reading about how valence and arousal regulate emotion was eye-opening, and I'm sure it will only get more fascinating from there. I can't wait to finish the book. I want to thank Max for his book, and you for the video, both are fantastic.

"Too complex to reverse engineer, because the brain was not engineered the way a human would have made it. The brain evolved, to create what we call intelligence." Wtf😂 So it's beyond our comprehension but it evolved by itself? The brain is clearly a design from an intelligent designer. The body itself let alone the eye is complex. If y'all can't see that then you just don't think for yourselves

@@Jigga777You are the ignorant one. Evolution, which is genetic change plus natural selection, is a very powerful process - it drives the increasing complexity of organisms without needing to invoke an "intelligent designer." If this was driven by a creator it would result in efficient designs rather than the reality, which is organisms that are usually only just good enough to pass on their genes. Did your "creator" design cancer, back pain & countless species of parasites out of some grand plan? Of course not! This wonky design ethos goes back billions of years & has nothing to do with the Biblically recent so-called Fall of Man false narrative. Please read a science book rather than getting your information from a handful of fraudulent scientists working for AiG & other creationist organisations.

The creator is responsible for the existence of these so-called bad things, and premade people to be able to endure them. Not everyone is the same, not everyone experiences life the same way. What I find interesting about the theory of evolution is that it makes a lot of sense, but people seem to shut off their brains. They just think this is reasonable and that is reasonable, but never ask "this is too convenient, this is not how the world works". Take this video for example. Nice theory and all, but gloss over the fact that there is no intermediate steps taking place as well as no intermediate models in existence. This means that even though theoretically it makes sense, in reality it is far from conclusive.

Wrong. You discounted and ignored the waters of life. Every culture in every content spoke of it. The living waters. Waters of life. Water with healing properties that gave long life. It also changed dna selection and mutations as we know them. Since we assume life spans were never different. Even if all the cultures told us otherwise.

As humans, we need our bodies for sustenance and procreation. Machine learning has neither of these limitations, and can still access reinforcement learning through simulated bodies. I think fascinating times are ahead, for both the fields of neuroscience and machine learning, as we compare a physical brain, with the ability to simulate ideas, with a simulated brain, with the ability to simulate a corporeal form.
