You guys can say you won Great battles in 1812 but you can't say you won the war against the United States as the war was ended by a Treaty of Ghent if you guys won the war then the Americans would've surrendered witch they did not .and also don't think the British only had good victories as The US had Great victories as well in 1812 Oliver hazard Perry defeated a navy British fleet as well as the USS constitution Breaking the myth of British naval invincibility witch were two different battles by the way.and as well as William Henry Harrison Who won the battle of the Thames. And also don't forget the battle of horseshoe Bend. And finally the best one of all the battle of New Orleans which the British failed to take back the colonies that's the reason over here they call it the second independence war which confirmed our independence but I'm not the kind of person to get but hurt we kinda did deserve the burning of our capital as we burnt the Canadian capital witch was York and now is so called (Today's Toronto) as a payback from the British

the war of 1812, the war of american aggression to invade Canada thinking that Britain wouldn't respond while fighting Napoleon. also known as the forgotten war, British schools teach the Napoleonic wars at that time whereas american schools tend not to mention it at all or if they do it is very vague, Britain chose to not press home their victory as they learnt from the war of independence that the american wasn't a gentleman in the art of warfare and would pursue a campaign of guerrilla warfare and sabotage should Britain continue, that and its hard to claim to fight the tyranny of napoleon if you then go on to take a young nation... however Britain did accomplish its primary goal which was to defend Canada

This is the war of 1812. battle of new orleans was essentgially the only battle the americans won after being roundly defeated on three attempts to invade canada. How about a nice song about marching into washington sending the president fleeing and burning the white house to the ground? America's history in wartime is one of hubris and 1812 was no exception. Conceit, arrogance and treason. Great reading!!

+kitsmedia How about the battle of Lake Eirie where we sent the British Fleet to the bottom?
@ArkansanMan8 жыл бұрын
The Americans were repulsed in their three attempts to invade Canada, and the British were repulsed in their three attempts to invade the US. There is a reason most historians conclude the war was a draw. And the British have quite a bit of conceit and arrogance of their own when it comes to war, and also fought a civil war where the king ended up beheaded, which was treason.
kitsmedia MOST historians see the war as a draw, anyone claiming it was a victory for either side is ignoring several problems for either side to claiming victory. America didn't end impressment or trade restictions through war, though we did collapse the indian confederacy the british were arming. Taking cnaada was not an official goal of the US government. The British demanded the US cede Maine, as well as the midwestern states like what became michigane, illinois, indiana, wisconsin and minnesota, for an indian nation, and the british didn't recognize the US purchase of Louisiana and liekly woudl have taken it if they won at new orleans. Yet the British lsot at new orleans, and plattsburgh, and baltimore, and thus had to come to terms that winning was not possible. It was a status quo treaty for a reason, which is why its generally claimed that neither side won. Besides, I doubt any historian who says "canada " won the war, since Cnada was not a country until 1867. No one says the United States won the Seven years War, even though we )as in the American colonies) fought in it.

I don't know who provided the lyrics above, but they are loaded with errors, for instance; UP THE MISSISSIP, met the BLOOMIN" rebels, not bloomy, there wasn't NIGH as many, not NIGHT as many. If you are going to print lyrics, get them right, not from a child or someone who can't hear.

Well, when I went to school (in England) and read my English history book, I remember it said that the American forces defeated the British army that was intent on capturing New Orleans. It was also one of the deciding factors that Great Britain pulling out of their Louisiana Campaign ( other one being that a little chap called Napoleon was causing a bit of trouble back in Europe. As to who won the war.. No-one wins wars - everyone loses
