TSA is always saying “check with your airline” for this reason. Bag separation for ammunition is an airline specific thing, not a TSA thing. On the airline I flew this time, ammunition can be packed in the same case as the gun, but not in a magazine.

It’s meant to stop the TSA and airline agents who don’t have the specialized skills or tools to get into the lock. Locks like this one have actually gotten an “I would use this” from LPL. Thanks for the suggestion. I know soaking things is citrus degreaser loosens things up (used that trick on a Swiss Army knife before), but I hadn’t thought to try that method on the revolver. I’ll definitely be sure to give you a shout out if it works. - The Pilot

It took a lot of effort to get the information necessary from TSA to make sure it gets done correctly. There are plans for a trip report video that discusses how everything actually went and makes recommendations for anyone else planning to fly with black powder firearms. The trip will happen over Labor Day weekend, and the follow up video will hopefully be out within a few days of the return flight. Since security is handled differently at the two airports, I want to make sure to include both of them. - Pilot
