I made pilgrimage to the cave on the 24th of September and left that 7 day votive lamp (the card and flowers were already there). It made me happy to see that it was able to burn down all the way to the bottom. So thank you very much for showing me that.

Good video, keep them coming. The Cross is a Celtic style cross and when King Edwin was King it was under the influence of the Irish Church. The Monks who taught Edwin about Christianity had arrived from the outpost of the Island of Iona, in the Irish Sea. For Lord of the Rings fans, Edwin's would be assassin, was called Eomer, and J. R. R. Tolkien was Professor of Anglo Saxon at Leeds University before going to Oxford University. He knew his History and you can be sure he knew Eomer, although in the LOTR, Eomer is a goody Rider of Rohan, not a baddie assassin of Sauron. The Assassin was sent from Wessex, and so was Saxon, but all the others including the Cross are Angles. Deira was absorbed into Northumbria. I have a series of videos about the Dark Ages😍 for those who wish to know more.

@@Church_Searcher I grew up in Thornaby ( Cambridge road, opposite St Paul's ) but Catholic so it wasn't appropriate that we have anything to do with something run by the "prody dogs". I always wondered about the supposed Anglo-Saxon links especially as we were told the Normans had wrecked everything in the North as some part of the Conquest. Then there's Kildale... definitely Norman? In NZ now and there's a small church down the road with an interesting feature....musket ports!! How Xian is that!

I think the amount of information that you include is just about right and your delivery is excellent. This really is a great video - I’m a Scot and have been to Flodden twice. This battle is one I think about often, just how different the day could of been if different decisions were made or quite importantly, if weather/conditions were better
@Church_Searcher2 ай бұрын
@@paulmuir2184 thanks Paul, you're right - many variables and were at play that day. I recently visited English Heritage archaeology store in Helmsley and they had about a dozen of the stone cannons balls used by Mons Meg at Norham Castle in the days before Flodden - absolutely massive - it really brought home the logistics of hauling those things around.
